I still think they have aerodynamic issues, or are scratching their heads to optimalise anyway. The front wing has been tweaked so many times throughout the season. There are areas of it they feel comfortable with, but others are not given what they want.
This is how the front wing evolved:
Winter testing
A bit later during winter testing, different cascades and changed flaps:
More changes in Australia, with the flap tips reprofiled for the Y250 vortex:
The next few races they would go back and forth between this design and the previous design. Eventually the Australian spec got less and less track time.
Until June, when the short nose was introduced during the Austrian GP:
In Silverstone they changed the endplate area, and moved the wing elements a little bit inboard:
In Singapore they added canards to both sides of the endplate, and slightly tweaked the opening in the opening in the endplate:
Then during the American GP, the further moved the wing front elements (so not all of them) inboard, and put slots in the flat section of the footplate:
Coupled with yet again an updated endplate:
In general, their outboard area is something they are struggling with. This is crucial for aero consistency due the interaction with the wheel. Dedication more area like they have done in Silverstone and further in Austin will make the aero platform more stable at the sacrifice of peak downforce.
Further, their Y250 area might also not yet be fully optimized. It'll be something to watch out for either during the post Abu Dhabi test, or during pre-season winter testing.
