Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Just a guess. I figured the higher loading of the front allowed for a more loose rear for the turns in Singapore, while there needs to be a bit more planted rear in Japan. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Just a little note from my visit to Singapore, I saw the mechanics remove a KERS battery pack from within the gearbox. The horseshoe shape battery had been seen last year, but with the floor mounted batteries seen in Melbourne earlier this year, I assumed the middle battery was deleted. Perhaps they are running with the two outer gearbox batteries, one inner gearbox and two floor mounted ones! Although simply the weight in cabling means they probably aren't running all of these at a race.

DDRS on the red bull then? Didn't think they'd bother.

I think you can see the hole here, trying to find a better shot. Image

I don't think it is something related to DDRS as it will be banned next year, there is no point in developing in that matter.

how much downforce compared to last years has been regained so far? this seasons exhaust solutions are said to have far less a downforce effect.

Hi,

This is the first time I notice these covers on the rear-axle next to the brake-discs (Tire-thread). Has RB find a other loophole to use here for rear-tyre temp-mgmt or something else (any idea's anyone ?).

GReetz,

S.

edit: the covers are used on both front-and-back wheels.

They've used them for quite a while, the covers are over hot cylinders of aluminium, used to pre-warm the breaks.

Anyone have a comparo shot of the Singaporean and Japanese front wings? I hear there are detail changes, but seems the same from what I've seen so far.

Certainly this image shows large plates on the ends of the DRS flap which have never been present before, and what looks like the border of a hole behind there. I think RBR may well be DDRSing – perhaps that's where all this straight line speed came from in qualifying.
