Renault F1 R.S. 19

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

May I ask where you got the recorded weather conditions from? I looked and couldn't find them, only forecasts before the race.

It was an article where they were explaining the problem Mercedes had with the cooling. I will try find it again and send you the link.

Is that crossways fence on the floor supposed to be there!? That looks like it would be a disaster for keeping the air attached nicely to the top of the floor!?

Good eye. Might be a protective cover for pressure taps. Some teams run pitot tubes there for testing. Otherwise, hoping for some revo new device.

What is wrong with this car? Hulkenberg was easily outqualified by the mclarens in Q2 and Daniel out in Q1. This dog needs to be put down.

The picture above your post is everything that is wrong with this car. It's called doing too much for too little. I'm very concerned that the designers here were sipping something exotic.

The whole area is a convoluted mess, and they need to get with the program. There is a reason the top teams are having design convergence in this area. What Renault is doing, is not working.

IMO, it has too much rake and therefore lacks consistent aerodynamic balance in long corners as the front tyre wake affects the underbody downforce production too much when the front wheels are turned (or when the car rolls or pitches), causing a loss of rear downforce in the middle of the corner.

Renault RS19 has the most rake of any 2019 F1 car and IMO this is a mistake. It probably makes good downforce numbers on CFD, but when that downforce cannot be consistently produced throughout a long corner then what's the point of having good theoretical numbers!?

IMO, the design team has chased impressive peak theoretical downforce numbers instead of chasing solid, consistent downforce production in all conditions.

The car also seems to be flawed on the suspension design with poor braking, poor ride control and poor traction. However the team, to their credit, seem to have improved that a lot between Baku (where it was terrible) and Canada where the car was competent in those areas.

The problem is, aside from the car's aversion against medium speed turns and high temps, is, like Hulk and Ric said, that the aero developpement on this RS.18B is very conservative, minimalistic and slow (and non existant since 2 gp: GER and HUN).
The updates the other teams bring often look more agressive and imaginative than the Renault ones... and I'm not talking about Ferrari or Merc, I'm talking about STR, Alfa, RP and Mclaren.
Not to mention the developpement rate and frequency...
Obviously a more complex or agressive update isnt necessarily more "effective", but that's the reason this team is struggling in that midfield where every tenth counts.
Just look at the first cape Alfa brought (and the related changes they brought to the nose - a nose that already was much more complex than the RS.18B) and the Renault cape. That just an example amougst that group of teams.
Many new parts look outdated from the get go on this car.
https://sf.viepratique.fr/wp-content/up ... o-cape.jpg

There is probably a corelation problem (the French gp updates didnt bring the expected gains*) that urged the team to suspend the developpement for a while and try to undrstand the issues...
*but they and the car worked quite well in Silverstone...

I'm not quite sure Silverstone did go better. The most obvious comparison is the mclaren and it seems to be light years ahead of the RS19. Obviously not as far ahead as the red bull used to be but considering where the Mclaren was last year this is an extremely poor performance from Renault with the RS19.
