Far too complicated a system. Any points system should be easy to understand for the casual fan.

I seriously hate to bump this topic, but i have to ask, what races is he talking about?
"Lewis (Hamilton) last year was second in a couple of races he could easily have won, and he was quite right in being second," said Ecclestone.

Only Valencia, Singapore & Brazil come to mind, but he wasnt exactly second in all of those, but he maybe could have pushed harder for positions in all of those.

You are asking about what a senile old crazy man is referring to so dont expect a very good answer.

Hehe true words.
Regarding Valencia, i remember Felipe comfortably leading to a hat trick, while LH was never that far behind he was never faster.
Singapore i do recall Lewis going balls to the wall passing DC, but then he backed off from snatching 2nd place from Rosberg, as apparently the team had to reel him in so he wouldn't risk it all. But assuming he would have passed Nico there's no way he would have grabbed 1st place from Alonso. It's a very hard to pass circuit where Trulli and Fisichella being heavy on fuel were capable of holding a lot of people behind for quite a while.
And Brazil, oh well, completely different story, and a great one at that :D

As I said to someone the other day, Spa shows that Lewis didn't settle for second (granted he was penalised, but that's another story). He could have easily settled in after his last pit stop and left Raikkonen to take the win, but he kept pushing the entire race.

Given that I find it hard to accept that he is a driver who just settles for second and I'm not even a Lewis fan.

Apparently not. There was a discussion about this on the Speedtv boards and a member, anzie, noticed that there is a revised version of the 2010 Sporting regulations on the FIA website dated 5/6/2009 that now has the points system as the means of determining the champion. Now we need to find out if that was some kind of typo originally or if the FIA was trying to sneak it in.

Considering how events have shaped up for 2009, it appears Bernie's magnificent medal system will be dismissed. If it had been in place for this season, Button would almost have a hammerlock on the WDC, with eleven races to go. Even now there are murmurings that Bernie is very unhappy how the title chase is shaping up. It appears that Brawn and Button may sew up the titles long before the end of the season, reducing the relevance of the remaining races. If that happens, spectator and TV audience will decrease, impacting on Bernie's revenue.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

They may have to find new evidence then that the DDD is a movable aero device. ;-)

I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

I think my example ages ago about the driver's championship being won very early in the season is being proven beyond doubt this year with Button.

Realistically, under a medals winner takes all system, Button is one win away from the title - if he hasn't won it already. I mean, can you really see any other driver winning more than half of the remaining races? Not a chance.

Even DC agrees with me. http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,18954, ... 93,00.html

So what if he ties up the championship very early?

If a driver wins all of the first half races +1 does he not deserve the championship?

and if not the please explain why?

He does. But the medal system also gives him an early rest.

A well deserved one...

contemplate this... How many times did the great Senna(3 WDC's... but 4 in my book) accomplish half the races plus 1?

or Prost?
