This is because of the Mercedes engine or because of the exhaust design?
More power -> more fuel consumption? Isn't that it?

Question. When and why did red bull opt not to use monkey seat? I remember it being on the launch car.

Merc was doing the same thing .. maybe testing with/without? Maybe reducing drag? Maybe trying to balance the aero? Pics show it's been off for a while ..

RB8 has been without the ''monkey seat'' throughout 2012. Only few last races they reintroduced it.
Since the RB is widely regarded as a car with most downforce, they don't really need to use that small amount of DF that it produces. More so as they are trying to reduce the drag and improve the top speed. It's very understandable.

McLaren exhaust solution needs more fuel.
E.g. at Austin, W03 exhaust solution that was on Michael`s car needed ~10% more fuel.
But in general speaking, it`s an well know fact that Renault engine require less fuel than Mercedes one, at a level between 3-5%, depending on the race ...

That was compared to their other exhaust that just blew straight out probably towards the rear wing. Therefore had no need for off throttle blowing.

The ramp solution does need that though, so the 10% figure is doesn't apply. I doubt there's much of a fuel difference between ramp and open systems.

Their front wing is still "flexing/oscillating" like last year, saw it on sky over the kerbs, no other car did that.

also nosecone is flexing. they are the only one with concave nosecone aloving them to flex it (remember the last years gif of pit crew flexing it like bubblegum).

not this again.

The nose was broken.

Oscillation in slow-mos is to be expected as well. Especially with the shape of this nose. Nothing sinister though.

Apparently RBR are measuring front wing's flexion & torsion using those red spots and nose cameras
