Red Bull RB12 TAG-Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Tech analysis: Red Bull planning shorter nose

There had been suggestions the nose could make its debut in Friday practice at Montreal, but that did not happen.

It makes sense for Red Bull to develop their nose now, spend some time optimizing it, and study how it influences the rest of the car, and then make use of that knowedge in 2017. It doesn't make sense to invest a lot of resources in other aerodynamic areas of the car, so I'd imagine that soon they'll switch over to developing the 2017 car completely.

Absolutely nothing to add from me Technically, but God I love that paint job !

Was it ever determined if there's any advantage to it ?
Or does it just look good, and was designed to make the logos stand out better ?

Yeah cheers mate, I probably should have asked there.
Although it seems there are no real conclusions in that thread either.

Real talk right now.

What ever happened to the shorter nose we heard about in Canada? Are they running it now and I'm just blind, is it just that small of an upgrade? What's the deal here?

As already reported back in Canada, it has now been confirmed by Christian Horner that Red Bull has indeed been using a shorter nose since the Canadian Grand Prix.

The tip, which is only 1.5cm shorter, is difficult to discern by eye.

The shorter nose not only permits more airflow to travel under its body to improve performance downstream but also changes the way the tip interacts with the front wings ‘neutral’ section, which is the main reason teams are interested in shortening the nose in the first place.

Finally resolution. It looks the exact same.
