I don't know why you are so happy that hammy drew on points with Alonso 10 years ago when neither of them won the the championship anyway. Oddly, you seem to be in a boasting mood considering what's just happened lol bizarre!
I'm looking forward to next year, lighting striking twice and all.
I'm sure you were looking forward to this year last year too, look how that turned out.
Turned out swell, did you miss the part where he's the 2nd most winning F1 driver of all time, or the part where he's the only F1 driver to achieve double digit victories for 3 years in a row? No other driver has more than one... he's got 3. Then there's being >< close to getting the record for most poles in history, and he increased his podium percentage to over 55%. Imagine that, 55% of his races he's on the podium. Alonso is going to have to stay in F1 until he's got a beard like Santa to match those numbers. So I'm content if not ecstatic. Perhaps some day you can feel even 1/4 of the joy. Come over to the dumpster thread though, we can have a much better discussion there.

Alonso would have no trouble getting those stats if he was driving the Mercedes the last few years probably more actually. But that's good to know that your consolation prize is 'stats', good for you. :)

That is a big IF..... MORE? Yes, I have no doubt about it. Why I think so? He would have easily got that one single line in his contract, which Brawn would have had no problem signing back then. No.1 driver. And all Victories would have been Alonso's. Nico would have been the next Massa.

As it stands, @TAG is right, Lewis is the only driver to get double digit victories for 3 years in a row. That, without bargaining for being No.1 OR the team itself treating him as an undeclared defacto No.1 (like Vettel got treated at RB after 2010).

Well, I like both Alonso and Lewis. To me, one is not greater than the other. The problem for Alonso is, he has made bad decisions and has been in wrong place at wrong time, after his 2 titles. For Lewis, he has been at right places at right time.

F1 owes a title to Alonso and another Hamilton-Alonso battle to the fans. I hope we can watch it in 2017.

For me that battle would be the 21st century Prost-Senna battle. Stubborn constancy vs relentless speed. Like 2007 but wihout the stupid politics and limits of being in the same team.

Alonso is so good that when he smashes his team mates people would rather believe it's because it was written down on a piece of paper that he is faster making him somehow go faster in real life. I know stupid right? Lol

Anyway I don't know why your reading those stats to me like don't already know he's been in the most dominant car for three years and only had to share the wins with his teammate. Any bodies stats would look much better driving a merc it's not rocket science.

This is exactly why I put those points. At least a certain Nico doesn't have those statistics. So, it is not guaranteed that "ANY BODIES" can achieve it either.

He's also the only driver in F1 history to win at least one race in every season he's competed. He's won at every circuit he's competed on in F1 except Baku. There's a consistency that shows that it's not just "only wins in a great car".

Put Ferrari in there instead of Mercedes and you're talking about Schumacher in 2000-2004. And Schumacher had an obedient no.2 driver too.

Part of the success game is getting yourself in the right car. Hamilton gambled on Mercedes and the gamble paid off. Alonso gambled on Ferrari and it didn't pay off.

Would Senna or Prost have won so many in lesser cars than the McLaren or Williams? Would Clark have won so many in a lesser car than the Lotus?

Again, the key to success is having the right tools. For a racing driver that means getting in the best car you can. No one has ever won a title in a bad car.

I'd throw in Vettel too. A "champion of champions" season would be phenomenal. =P~ [-o< =D>

It would need an amazing change of fortune in Ferrari and McLaren which is unlikely, sadly. #-o

Sadly, I have my doubts with McLaren and I expect to see Ferrari to be near but not enough(like in 2015 and 2016).

Really? He's beaten Grosjean, Piquet and he drew with your boy hammy (who was had extensive testing before the season) so not really actually haha
Man it must really sting to be a double WDC one of the highest rated drivers on the grid, with years of experience and losing out to a kid that just shows up in the sport. Can lighting strike twice?
It will depend, but I guess McLaren learnt the lesson and will not favour SVD like they did favour LH in 2007, and if he tries to become #1 and disobey TOs, he´ll be punished instead of allowing him a tantrum and looking at a different side if he put a demand to his own team :wtf:

Also, FIA now does not need an english champ to renew fans interest, so if some crane put SVD on track after a mistake wich send him to the gravel, he will be disqualified, unlike what we saw in 2007.

It´s funny to see Lewis fans looking for a relief digging into stats

This is F1, stats means almost nothing. Or you think Jaques Villeneuve was a better driver than his father Giles because he´s a world champ while his father wasn´t?

Stats don't fall from sky. It's the representation of how much you made out of opportunities available to you. Giles wasn't a champion and for a reason. Talent is a qualitative description and statistics put a perspective to it.

Someone like Alonso's greatness as the best driver on the grid of this generation, would pale away over the next decade. Some time later, he would be remembered as a driver who won 2 Championships. Nothing more, nothing less. On the same breath, history would remember Vettel as a four time champion.

Why?
If they would have put Haryanto and Ocon into the Merc this year, they would have given us the epic battle for the WDC we saw. And if you would stick Ham and Ros into the Manor, they would have fought against the great ones of all time like Palmer or Nasr.
The stats is much too much biased by the car.
