or Prost?

Senna - None.
1988: he won 8 of 16 races. At mid-season he was equal on 4 with Prost.. at race 9 he jumped ahead.
1990: won 6 of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 3 wins, Prost was on 4.
1991: won 7 of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 4 wins, Mansell was on 2

Prost - None.
1985: he won 5 of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 3 wins.
1986: he won 4 of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 2 wins, Mansell was on 3.
1989: he won 4 out of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 3 wins, equal to Senna.
1993: he won 7 out of 16 races. At mid-season he was on 5 wins.

Applying Button's results in this fashion he's doing better than any of these 8 world championship drives above.

Exactly my point!

any driver who accomplishes such a feat as winning half the races plus 1, no matter at what part of the season deserves the WDC

So anyone saying that a wins based system is bad because of the WDC being over at the halfway point of the season is not being realistic.

What happens if his teammate wins half -1 and then proceeds to finish second in his teammate wins but his teammate decides to bin it in Monaco, Spa and Suzuka?
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

He does. But the medal system also gives him an early rest.

But we want to see the best of them racing not resting

What true racer would rest when they know they have a winning car under them? Even MS raced the last 4 races after clinching the WDC in 2004
