Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Red Bull gearbox for comparison, note the alloy pullrod rocker sits outside the case to operate the springs\dampers

To be honest the pelican noses remind me slightly of the bent nose of the W01 and the snowplough - and those purposes were to introduce a local low pressure right behind them, which helped suck more air in from under the nose.

You are right, it helped sucking more air ...so same can be applied here ...it is helping to suck air and accelerate its speed which would have slowed down due to high nose.

I'm not sure it gets slowed down, but yeah.

It'll be interesting to hear a more learned opinion on this (as opposed to my amateurish understanding! )

when air has to change direction it will slow down in relation to the uninterupted flow

Note new shape of sidepod turning vanes. They now roll over the top.

Webber was running without that connection. Davidson drew attention to it.

As I thought, RB tyres in Korea had no issues at all. On the contrary.... Just mind games.

As predicted by Scarbs earlier in the thread it appears Red Bull have a modified Tyre Squirt Duct/Hole on Webber's car too
(Waiting for a better image to come through)

Didn't Red Bull run with that Webber-style tower barge board last year, then changing to the Vettel style (connected over the top) this year?

Just realized, Red Bull is once again at the bottom of the speed trap table...they are probably running more downforce to get a bigger advantage from their DDRS in Qualifying, which might give them a slight disadvantage in the race
