Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If them drivers are not underperforming ,both Customer teams have more speed in their package.More significantly the gap to Pole position is more than one second.
Even more significantly Lotus has introduced the Coanda Exhaust and has jumped ahead with ease both cars in Q3. So the little step they made with their update has been soaked up completely .

Why would you go in circles with Caliper mounting position again and again? I would have thought you´d look after the tradeoffs and that´s about it...but as it´s the same with RedBull and others it seems to swing back and forth preferring stiffness /less brakepad knockback or low cofG..

So in effect Mclarens "B" development team is better in developping their car then Mercedes "works"...

What has been kept me scratching my head is how on God's earth Force India is faster  Merc's developments seem to bring no advantage at all or is it just me? Their new exhausts have helped them, really? I'm simply baffled by how this team works in general. They are trying a Lotus style DDRS. Isn't that gonna be banned from next season?

the car looked better than it really is .Button,diResta,Kobayashi,Perez would have eclipsed them so it would have beeen 13+14 realistically.
As we have already learned not to expect much in terms of race pace and tyre degradation one can only hope they can bag one or two points on sunday.
How ccan Force India develop their car faster than MGP when Mercedes have surely double workforce to design and manufacture parts?
No question w03 started out as the better car but now after several months of development FI have developped their car to be quicker ...astonishing.

It is always the case with Mercedes. They easily fall behind in the development race. Always too little too late. But the bigger question to me is: Have the updates on the car proved to be working or not? They seem to be in the same place they were before bringing the upgrades.

Well, according to Brawn and Haug the updates are working as expected...

Whatever this means  If they expected that the updates bring them 0.002 seconds, then the updates work as expected...

I'm hoping to see stronger race pace. Taking a leaf out of Lotus' book - you don't have to be on pole to get on the podium. Last week was a washout with Nico out on Lap 1 and Shumi starting from the back but laptimes looked good for Schumi up until he got stuck behind DLR.

from fp1+2 longruns we have no reason to expect a good showing -an extra stop would make them look competive early on but let´s wait and see +hope.

That's a fallacy. Last season, the W02 maintained its gap with the RB7 throughout the season, and I believe the W01 did the same with the RB6. Lotus were the ones falling back throughout the year in 2011.

a better strategy would have been if Michael hadn't set a quali lap and start this morning on softs (he used a SS in Q1 :wtf: ) i really want to see a different strategy in this team (last time was in SPA last year and Michal was fantastic)

Has Mercedes/Brawn GP ever been succesful at upgrading during the season?

They have as matter of fact.

EBD upgrades last year saw them claw back time, and maintain the gap on the leaders Red Bull.

At a point where the season was already lost and they had fallen back a lot already. Nothing different from this year, they fall further and further back, come with an update like the EBD and just retain position.
