Max on expecting a competitive race this weekend

“I don't think this circuit necessarily suits us very well if you look at the handling of our car this year. There are some slow corners and kerbstones here, which our car does not excel at.”

“I expect a lot of competition, especially over one lap. That will be close. About a race distance, I don't know. Normally our race speed is good.”

Normaly Nugnes has it in 80% of his statements wrong, but .....

As far as I know, Red Bull has a 2024 floor to test in free practice.
They won't use that floor in qualifying or racing.
There are photos going around of Red Bull mechanics with a shielded floor.

I will be as eagle eyed as I can. Do you have a photo handy of that?

pretty sure it would still need to be on the list, even if they don't plan to run it outside practice?!

I would imagine so. I can remember instances of teams declaring bodywork that is tested in fp and not raced at that round: mercedes introduced and tested in FP a wide rear opening for cooling at Monaco. They then didn't use in any competitive sessions until COTA where it came back out.

Its possible that it is a grey area - RB might interpret that to truly "use" a component, and thereby have to declare it, it would mean running in competitive session. I don't think that the part of the rules around the declaration documents are available publicly (just like the documents themselves).

But I can't think of any instance of a team running a significant change in free practice without declaration, so my assumption is that barring some sort of grey area exploitation we won't see them test anything

A lot of understeer in the esses on this medium tire long run. He's not happy at all.

Well I would rather them be slow in the high speed than slow speed this weekend

Max and Perez next to each other in onboard images.
Max makes very few steering movements and Perez makes a lot.

Indeed. Maybe they went extremely aggressive with the setup for fp1 and will tune it to race pace
