Mercedes AMG F1 W07

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I've seen other pics where it doesn't seem to be there.

It's the mandatory side impact structure.

Thanks for your reply mate, but for some reason I can't see the image you posted.
Here's another pic to show what I mean about not having seen it before.
This is from the other side of the car obviously, but it's completely different to the first pic I posted.

I was wondering if the first pic I showed is some sort of sensor maybe ?
It appears to have a hole in the end and looks nothing like this.
Seems to be imgur causing problems, opened my post in incognito and it doesn't show. Can you open a link directly?

But I think you know what I meant judging from your reply anyway.
This was discussed earlier in the thread and I think it was decided on it being just a shadow. There would be no way to legally have anything else there but a cover for the structure and it doesn't look like any sort of sensor.

Yes, I just noticed. Perhaps the old one is not working as they've expected? What do you think guys?

Or is it just a low drag high speed configuration setting?

They are also using the old front wing, but this could simple be down to not having a new front wing with old support struts. Mercedes may simply be back to backing the upgrades.

The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

New turning vanes. The horizontal piece is split up, much like how some teams do in front of the rear wheel

I believe this is for energising the flow under the DRS flap when it is closed. Turbulating the boundary layer will extract energy from the flow going under the first element of the RW to the flow between that and the DRS flap.
