Stella: “We saw relatively early that this car wouldn’t have taken us very far in terms of results, so actually we are working on pretty much redesigning aerodynamics and also some of the parts under the bodywork and they will start to see the light in Austria and then for the following races.”

Motorsport Total:

"In the presser, Andrea Stella (McLaren) explains that every aerodynamic part on the MCL60 has to be re-done. That's why an update is not enough. In Spielberg and Silverstone, further new parts are to be added to the car. Some parts even had to be redone under the body."

Changes as soon as next race...

I posted this a week back. They can't just change parts at will, all of the aero parts interact and have to be designed to work together.

I don't know if someone can clarify, @mwillems etc? Stella says although the car will look different, it will be an evolution of current concept and not a change In philosophy. But then why was development stopped months before it was launched? I thought that signalled a recognition that they were on the wrong path and needed to course correct.
...

If the change in the floor and sidepod is sufficient then they may warrant changes all over the car. Not that these other changes themselves bring time, just so that the whole car works as a package and that the time brought from the primary developments is not lost through poor integration.

Sidepod and floor naturally both interact with the diffuser, beam wing, floor edges, the way the air is pushed around the rear tyres etc... I'm sure there is more to it of course, I'm not technical so I couldn't do more than this technical guesswork.

Edit: The tunnel entrances could also be affected as could the delivery of the airflow from the front wing, so the postions and strength of the vortices from the FW might be adjusted. Or not lol

A little tinfoil hat theory

The whole aero of the car is to be redesigned. Did they went down a developement path and got some confirmation that they nailed it when they saw the RB floor in Monaco?

Is that why Mika is so confident? Did they do some validation of the new upgrade package in the new wind tunnel and got stunning results?

It could be a possibility 😎

Sounds like the MCL60 was designed by James Key's kids.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

No wonder the car did huge strides backwards in these last two years. James Key was overrated at the end of the day. He was good for a small team like Minardi and Torro Rosso but not good enough for a top team like Mclaren. Seidl was good for DTM or whatever he was before but Formula 1 is in another level. It will be very embarrasing for them if the car magically transforms with the change in philosophy.

The Race:
However, this next new package, which will be rolled out over the course of the races in Austria, Britain and Hungary during July, is the first product of the revised technical department that was put in place by team principal Andrea Stella in April.

So technically it is a B-Spec car after all since everything changed on it even the philosophy.

They certainly need a B spec after the last few years of flawed cars!

We both know the facts, you just choose to see only half of them.

Repeating the same poop again and again will not change anything.

It has been discussed to death, resurrected and disussed to death again many times. Just grab a beer, relax and move on, for your own sake and for the sake of eveyone that reads these forums.

You know what I find hilarious, you guys take issue with me calling the car flawed and using comments from Lando to back up my assertions.

And now we have Andreas telling us, after Key was fired, that Lando was in fact being diplomatic. The car is a dog and needs serious development work to fix!

And then folks like you get all grumpy with me for simply being correct!
