Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I don't think there is an f-duct. The tube that people are seeing there is probably not an air-tube (if a tube at all), I'm guessing it is the hydraulics for the DRS + the bulge for the upper wishbone mount

Brake duct fins are new. Seems they have made lots of small changes. Turning vanes, fins, etc.

@amouzouris don't be afraid mate. :)) No seriously, I think that's the way they'll go.

Is that from today?

Wow, does anybody see the strange appendix on the F2012 nose? W-duct? And look at the massive amount of flow viz on the track... FW problems? I see a lot of drag.

weird drawing - the exhaust doesn't look anything like that.

Rory Byrne was shortly back to help out the Ferrari guys right?
So if someone looks the design of the new exhaust, remember me that of the F399 !

The post I withdrew was just an observation about the brake ducts that I realized was false right after I posted it.

I'm still wrapping my head around the exhaust. For some reason, I have a sneaking suspicion that there's more to it than meets the eye. (Figuratively speaking, of course.)

(The drawing posted from Scarbs' blog is a speculation of how a McLaren style exhaust would look on the F2012.)

I agree with p910ifrank: it seems that the central rad on top of the gearbox has been removed. If confirmed, thet would be a significant layout change (even more relevant than exhausts)

He says that if Ferrari wants a Macca solution it is possible now. :)

Is the back push-rod in the same position as (let's say) yesterday? To me it seems that is mounted much higher...

What about the brake duct fins? I'm 99.99% sure they're new. See below. Links to save bandwidth.

And I found it.

Cheeky bastards.

The exhaust plume is directed toward the center of the car where it's then collected at the very rear of the diffuser to be channeled to the hole I've highlighted next to the wheel.

EDIT: Finally, an elegant Ferrari solution!

EDIT 2: I believe this is the oft-discussed Byrne floor.

EDIT 3: Not only is the exhaust channeled to these hole, so is the lion's share of the hot air from within the engine cover. Ferrari now has a double-blown diffuser.
