Just because the team say they understand something or know how to fix it, doesn't mean that will be on the car immediately, or even in a few weeks. Sometimes it can take months to see results.
It's the usual Mercedes word crucifix. Whatever they say, they will be nailed to that cross irrespective of context, timing, nuance, situation or any other reasonable metric.
A reasonable interpretation as yours would accommodate that if a problem is understood, it does not remove the problem, and would take time to resolve.
Equally, that in solving some problems you create others.
And further, some solutions to certain problems create larger problems.

The more enlightened might call it the learning process.

I wonder if the colour name is ‘Verstappen Orange’
No, that is a colour with a smoky note and touch of flare in the right light...

We've heard it before. "We now understand porpoising" comes to mind. Unless it comes in the shape of results on track I wouldn't put much stock into what this team says.
When they said they fixed porpoising, they fixed it. So I don’t follow.

I don’t know how anyone expects it to show via results on the track short of the fact that they keep racing the parts they bring. They’re not going to close up a ~.5s gap to RB in race trim. No team has, no matter how dramatic their upgrades have been.
They hardly fixed it. The infamous Canadian GP TP meeting was several races after Spain where those comments were made. Baku was two races after Spain, you know that race where Lewis' a** got a big workout in.

What I expect is them to be closer to RB, those are the only results we're interested in. We've seen AMR and McL make huge leaps in performance. Merc have been largely stagnant around 6 tenths behind RB since the start of 2022. It's all talk from this team, trying to keep their fanbase engaged.
Given Red Bull will have been improving their car all through that period I’d say they’ve done a great job hanging on with a car concept they know is not the right one.

Special livery for Zandvoort? I'm imagining some orange highlights like endplates, wheel covers etc

Think 'Dutch Orange' just hits better ngl. Try and find pictures of the show Dutch F16's, they look amazing.

A driver statement:
Confident the homework he has done will pay dividends on next year's W15, Hamilton added: “I've had more time to be able to focus on that with the team than ever before. And generally, be even more hands-on in the direction that we're going with the car next year.

“And when I step away, just making sure that I'm fit and mentally in the right place for when the car is right. And so hold on to that.

“Fortunately, I've got these other things that keep me motivated as well, which tap into the whole ecosystem. Like the [Brad Pitt] movie for example. So yeah, I'm just biding my time."

Hamilton says that the team is still gathering data about the W14 that can feed into making next year’s car better.

"We're always learning more and more about the characteristics, the airflow, how the car works in cross winds, how it works in the high, medium and slow speed corners, how you work with the tyres,” he said.

“High-downforce, mid-downforce, low-downforce settings. So you're constantly learning, there's constantly data being delivered and analysed, and I'm learning more every time we get in the car.

“We're learning more about how we can use the engine differently, and how we can use the fuel. So you always learn."

Looking ahead to this weekend’s race at Zandvoort, Hamilton confirmed Mercedes have a number of minor upgrades.

“We have a couple of bits that the guys have worked on,” he added. “Not massive steps but every little counts. We understand the car more. I’m hoping each weekend we can put the car in a better window.

“Spa is not a great circuit for us but we still did relatively decent.

“I’m hoping this weekend should be similar performance-wise to Budapest. Hopefully we can be competitive.”

Interesting! We might see the true extent of the Spa upgrade (and the new "bits") this weekend. They seemed to be compromised by the awful weather and schedule in Spa and are usually more competitive on the high downforce circuits that don't penalize efficiency.

FP1 is meaningless, considering how close Williams is, and the fact that Ferrari didn’t even run softs and McLaren did correlation work.

Russell said they expected this to be one of their best circuits along with Brazil.

williams could have been a glory run. I'm not saying this is qualifying....but better 3rd in FP1, than unhappy and outside the top 10.

At least of the Lewis side of things, the car looks to be handling well. Toto said something about preparing for Sunday more so than Saturday...which is interesting.
