Well, after about 18 race sims the gearbox has finally had an issue.
Quite hilarious really, that its lasted so long.
Yes, components should be designed to complete the desired distance, otherwise it's over engineered.PhillipM wrote:Chapman would tell them it's obviously too big and heavy
Or, to put it another way, slightly further than the winning distance in last year's Le Mans 24 Hours…djones wrote:Well, after about 18 race sims the gearbox has finally had an issue.

According to AMuS they changed the PU before the second test session ... that means gearbox too?Chene_Mostert wrote: ...
I'm sure the have changed engine and gearbox over the weekend.
I got a feeling they've reached the maximum potential of their W05 mk.3 (now W07). Same philosophy nothing really eye catching, except putting serrations everywhere. I think they've over-complicated the chassis not knowing where to extract more performance. If you look at their diffusor its more or less the same as last's years, not very developed comparing to the McLaren's, Toro Rosso, Ferrari's and Red Bull's.Holm86 wrote:So, Mercedes is just serrating everything now??
Is that some sort of saw-tooth profile in the lower wing beam edge?F1NAC wrote:Flo-viz on Mercedes
On upper flap on right side there are visible like vertical lines created by vortex which are induced by serrated tape.

Compare to the image they're testing now. Very mild modifications.
