All F1 cars already use diffuser/nozzle geometry for the heat-exchanger flow, the general rule of thumb is that the expansion ratio is around 5 on a typical car. This doesn't explain the odd geometry on the Ferrari sidepod leading-edge.

I can think of two possibilities- 1. It's a clever way to position the side-impact structure where it's required to go while positioning the sidepod air intake in a place that would typically not be possible with the side-impact location, or 2. It's a way to reduce sidepod intake airflow (and thus drag) at high speed while allowing normal/more flow at low speed, this would keep cooling capacity more consistent as function of speed and would reduce drag on fast straights. This would involve something like the airflow detaching from the down-ramp above a certain speed and therefore never entering down into the sidepod.

- Very difficult for other teams to copy on short notice
- Leading edge further back than any other car exept the Haas
- Turning vane houses mandatory crash structure

I love shots of that area on the Ferrari. It looks like someone just threw a bunch of random fins at a car covered in glue, and however they stuck was the final design. Except it seems to be working!

he's the third person that feels the same about that pic... Me and my friend also...
I honestly don't know why but maybe the composition and position of the car in the frame is more eye catching than in the other ones + it's sharp and in focus... I don't know... :D :-k
