Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

DRS hydraulic pipes...

Interesting to see the exhaust configuration this time is less extreme (i.e. less akin to the Ferrari Acer ducts) and a more subdued bulge. Perhaps for higher speeds and less drag.

I don't see any change to be honest...

I'll check again; it might have been a trick of all that chrome and the angle.

Sky Sports F1 has learnt that McLaren ran development parts for 2013 during Friday practice at India without telling an oblivious Lewis Hamilton.

It is understood that Hamilton's MP4-27 carried experimental components throughout both sessions but the driver was deliberately kept unaware by the McLaren team on account of his upcoming transfer to rivals Mercedes.

"Sam Michael told us at lunchtime that Lewis Hamilton was running parts for next year but McLaren didn't tell Hamilton because they didn't want him to know what they were," revealed Ted Kravitz during The F1 Show.
Serious? Wow. Talk about tension. Anyone spotted what the parts were?

^^It's the complete opposite of what mclaren are actually saying.

Plus, there would be no point, you expect the drive to know exactly what every little tweak has done just by looking at it? If so, put him on the aerodynamics team and hire another driver.

Sounds like rubbish to me. If you want any form of useful feedback you'd need to tell the driver that something had changed. Trying to second guess from comments like "wow, the car's a dog" without any context is just bizarre...

As I have understood it Lewis knew that he got new parts but did not know the changes in detail.

Maybe he wasn't aware that they were 2013 parts. Or he became a bit too careful after his Twitter leaks ...
