Red Bull look the team to beat at the moment me thinks
Huh, why? Grosjean is currently lapping faster and also on a long race simulation.
What? laptimes on a cold Spanish afternoon with an actual unknow level of fuel?

For me it's to do with drivers reaction, even if they say the don't know what other teams are doing, they do, they know where they are. It's most likely a top 3 of red bull, mclaren and lotus, redbull the team to beat and mclaren 3rd. It's just my opinion

Merc, Lotus, RB all looking decent on tires today.

Any idea what tires Nico was running earlier for his banger lap? I believe they were used mediums but not sure.......

what makes you say that?
The lap times...

1:30.979 1:31.282 1:31.334 1:31.632 1:31.881 1:32.188 IN OUT 1:28.457 1:28.853 1:30.561 1:30.594 1:30.942 1:31.252 1:31.072 1:31.347 1:31.696 1:31.749 IN OUT 1:29.679 1:29.586 1:29.642 1:30.050 1:30.843 1:31.086 1:31.037 1:31.347 1:31.471 1:31.774...

To be able to de 1:28.4 with about 60 laps remaining in a race simulation looks very fast. And the drop is not a disaster.
he had to pit after 6 laps, did 2 laps of 1:28 on new tires and then went on about 2-3 seconds slower for the remainder of the stint.
i somehow fail to see how that's spectacular but i might be wrong.

Grosjean did exactly the same, 1:28 after the first 6 lap stint and then a drop-off

He has done that type of stint again.

I wonder if they're seeing how much is taken out the tyres with a few hot laps to simulate an overtake or a push on in pace?

Looking more closely at Grosjean, yes it is pretty similar...
It is clearly faster than Maldonado this morning, but again track conditions...

No word on Macca? I assume Button is in place of Perez today.

Merc, Lotus, RB, Fer and Macca all look very close in my opinion. Lotus look great on the long run, very consistent, low tyre deg, don't think they are out and out fastest but could be very close over race distance.

I think it's obvious Rosberg is not doing a full race simulation (unlike RG, MW,PM)

I think merc are testing how going out fast each lap is performing vs pacing yourself over the lap. To me it seems as if they are looking to see if going 'slower' over each lap averages out as going faster.

Grosjean on his last stint that consists of five laps, does ~ 1:28.5s for the first four laps, then takes a second out of himself for a ~ 1:27.5s and pits.

Much better tyre management by Mercedes AMG, Aldo Costa's hand?
