Mercedes and AMuS have confirmed Hamilton's time was set on super soft:

MERCEDES AMG F1 ‏@MercedesAMGF1 39m
@tgruener @andrewbensonf1 Hi all.. just to confirm, it was the supersoft tyre that Lewis used to set the fastest time yesterday

Tobias Grüner F1 ‏@tgruener 2h
@LukeAttwood Definitely supersoft. We saw it from the pitwall & I got it confirmed once again by Mercedes. Not a perfect lap by Ham though.

Yeah, that is a quali-wise guess

The thing is, this winter I had very little access to race sim laptimes. On previous years there was that spanish site with all lap times recorded on it. It was off for this year, unfortunately.

I'll have to wait to see if AMUS really publishes them to have an idea of how some other teams compare with Mercedes, Williams and Mclaren(the only rac sim laptimes I saw here)

Interesting that Alonsos race sim for Ferrari would have made him 45seconds slower than Rosberg over the same race distance.

And he also says that one of the race sims of Force India looked pretty good (Mercedes and Williams territory).
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

Didn't Ferrari go for low drag cars the last years?

By the way Ted Kravitz (I think?) on Sky was saying that the Alonso high speed was after a good slipstream, so don't read it as gospel.

According to pitlanetalk Twitter, domenicali told sky Italia Ferrari weren't running full power in Bahrain.

Obviously it's a bit he said/she said, but take it for what it's worth.

Consider the graph above of Mercedes powered cars on Day 3. Mercedes runs and groupings show consistency and pace and the tyre degradation is pretty low. “Mercedes engineers looking at this graph will be pleased with where they are so far,” says Gillan. “Day 4 wasn’t so great as they had some problems, but Day 3 with Rosberg was very consistent. They are the team to beat in Melbourne.”
Basicilly, this was THE circuit of tyre management last year. If you can say about a "team tyre deg. is pretty low" on this circuit, you can assume even less problems on other circuits.
Someone said on other forum that Pirelli 2014 tyres are in fact 2012 ones with the emphasis on the rears due to much torque these PU have ...
Could anyone confirm that`s a fact?

They might be similar but Pirelli have said they've changed the tyres to be more resistant to lateral tearing, which is why we've not seen so many marbles. (I'm pretty sure thats what was said anyway, pretty sure it was in one of Ted's notebooks)

In their Bahrain PR, they said their tyres are not far from the 2013 ones in performance. So, in that terms, it's really something around the 2012 ones but apparently with some tweaks.

By the end of 2012, team were using the tyres in a better way so that the wear wasn't that big, which I imagine is similar to that we had in the testing and what we'll have this season.

So, yeah, all in all, I guess it's fair to say 2014 are basically 2012's level of performance, with some modifications in construction.
