Can't hardly wait to see the performance of the Red Bull in the upcoming test in Barcelona. It's also a miracle the Red Bull attended the Jerez tests as they were behind schedule.
Yes that time was a bit of an eye opener on the hards, which are supposed to be a full second slower than the softs (its half a second for each compound). My jaw dropped when I read they had done it on the hards, really.
But only 3/10 up on Jenson on a green track with little setup work. Time will tell.

Look an impression from Gary Anderson about Vettel's time.

BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson in Jerez
"The longer this test has continued, the more it looks as though Jenson Button's fastest time of 1:18.8 in the McLaren on the first day was very reasonable indeed. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel has beaten it by 0.3secs on the final day but the track has four days' worth of rubber on it now, so should be considerably quicker"

In my opinion nobody must fear any time set at this tests. First test is all about correlation. Updates will follow and even Massa said that he is still wowed by Button time. However we don't know how the cars were setup up and we don't know any fuel loads. I think they haven't tried to drive a time which shocks the rivals.

i know that, but red bull never reveal their tricks until last day of tests, also you need to consider that red bull run everything on their brazil specification, webber sayed that. i still think red bull even with Vettel time hid their performances in some way, but i think mclaren is over them a bit.

I agree. Early days, lost of development to come especially for bigger teams, unknown time differences between tyre compounds, and it's Jerez with its weird layout and surface.

Two conclusions: no one stands out negatively, like Ferrari or McLaren in recent years; two: unlike last season there's no particular performance differentiator (exhaust for McL, Saub and Ferr), which means it should be close. Until Red Bull's wings start flexing or something ;-)

We can get an initial placement for teams. Adjusting times properly (-0.5s to Button for setting time the first day not 4th; -0.5s to Force India which I think can't be so bad they sandbag; -0.5s to Caterham after all they didn't seem SO slow) we get

1- McLaren MP4-28
2- Red Bull RB9 +0.2s
3- Ferrari F138 +0.5s
4- Lotus E21 +0.8s
5- Mercedes W04 +0.9s
6- Force India VJM06 +1.1s
7- Sauber +1.3s
8- Toro Rosso +1.4s
9- Williams??
10- Caterham CT-03 +2.9s
11- Marussia MR02 +3.3s

Interesting that 3 of the top 4 teams in 2012 are at the bottom. I wonder if they are spending more time in the garage trying lots of different settings/parts, not wanting to leave a stone unturned?

Lotus at least was consistently at least half an hour in the garage between outings, when they had no problems reported. I hope this programme pays off.
