and if they start trying to sign a No2 as a No2 that only makes it less likely. who would they get? and if Charles is that good they don't need it anyway
wrong you need a good # 2 to cover any possible strategic calls (undercut, overcut, etc.) from your opponent.
and i makes it more likely to become champion with a good #2 (see mercedes the last few years with bottas) as when you have 2x #1 stealing points from eachother. (of course if you have a opponent/another team that is close to you)
and if you are #1 driver and you are sure to take more points as your #2 driver it becomes easier to win a championship.... or why do you believe Mercedes played the switcharoo card a couple of times between Bottas and Hamilton, to ensure Hamilton could get the maximum points neccessary to become Champion.

but let us return to the topic because this is a in season discussion and we are at Silly Season 2020/2021

Indeed, if Hamilton decides to switch to a non Mercedes powered car somewhere in his career, he will forfeit a life long ambassador status for the brand.
Hhmm. Schumacher was a Ferrari lifer after benetton and even though he switched to Mercedes he is still associated with Ferrari.
Look at Alain Prost. He is mostly remembered for his McLaren days. But currentlt represents Renault. While all driving for williams and ferrari

We as fans connect Schumacher with Ferrari. Even in 2013 when he already lost his drive with Mercedes, he was still an ambassador for them (doing commercials with Hamilton and Rosberg).

As for Prost, his final year in F1 was with Renault.

we are on topic i think :) so are you claiming Valtteri would sign a contract to be somebody's No2? Or if not, who would, do you think?

Why would any team want to give any driver a better status?

Think about it. If they did and that driver didnt perform... what then? What if their second driver drove better? Would they be required to tell him to slow down or even sabotage him?

Really, why would they?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I don't see Charles being a driver who demands that status anyway. It would appear Vettel is the only driver on the grid who would do that.

Lewis and Max for example just want equal status to show how good they are.

tbh honest.... yes Bottas would, he went from Williams to the best car on the grid, including a nice payment and he clinches on it with everything he has, we all talked about Bottas 2.0 at the beginning of the season .... he says he tries to beat Hamilton, but as i saw him trying to get past Leclerc (Brazil)..... poor attempts, when he defends, well actually he doesn't really defend.

what they all say during pressconferences or interviews could be entirly different as they behave within the team

It works. And works well. A better organized plan of attack in the races. A "spear head" in points scoring too. The number 1 gets to "stack" up on points tog uve the team bets chance of wdc.

You're citing his performance which is a different thing. It's all about status, that's what they race for, why they compete in the first place, and there's no status whatsoever in signing up as a wingman. Valtteri immediately complained when Toto called him a wingman. Rubens Barichello never recovered, among Brazilian fans, from Austria 2002, and they all know that's how it works

if he's not as fast as Lewis then he has to live with it, but he can keep trying, and be the best he can be. Not many of them will sign that away, honestly. And if they did their performance will drop, and teams know that too

Bottas complained about it because Toto called it out in the open, but internally it would have been fully clear who is #1 and #2 and that from the get go ....... and why shoud his performance drop, because he has been told he is a #2 driver? well thats a bad attitude then, giving up instead of fighting and showing he is better then all saying he is.

I stand by my point, every team has cleared who is #1 and who is #2, at least internal, what they tell us fans and media is a complete different story

it is isn't it :D . Tho it's not hard tbh, as Lewis has said it's not in his, which it would have to be. Obviously they all have "obey instructions from the team" in their contracts, but nobody since Schumi has had No1 in theirs, or no2 as that's redundant. And the reason is it means a low quality second driver like Irvine and they lose motivation too. Plus most top drivers are too proud to have that kind of thing to prop them up

you're drifting into discussing me instead of F1, so i'll leave you to think what you like. The day we hear Charles has No1 in his contract you can come back and :P
