2014-2020 Formula One 1.6l V6 turbo engine formula

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I'm afraid that the rules for fuel does anyways.

It would be nice to see newcomers come in and do something different and innovative, but alas the rules explicitly prevent it.

Right, while I would be content with dating Jessica Biel, but I'm obviously a man of modest xpectations.

Full power demand above 10500rpm! 8)
Forgive me if this is a completely stupid question and heretic to mention in F1 but is there anything in the rules to stop them from producing diesel engines...

At a quick glance, no. But....
  • The engine capacity is limited - would be a disadvantage to run Diesels without allowance for larger capacity
  • Fuel components are specified - not sure if you could make a compression ignition fuels with those components
  • Engine would probably weigh more
  • May not get as much energy recovery in MGUH because of the higher boosts required

so notionally this fuel rate limit is equivalent to only 1 hr of full torque demand running time (equivalent to 100 kg consumption)
so are all the races going to fit this ?
races currently use between 145 and 195 litres ?
the only way to fit the FIA '100 kg at 100 kg/hr' is to adjust many of the race distances
so that the 100 kg limit becomes equally significant (or not) at all races
the point of fuel rate limiting is to give perceptibly free driving
so that the fuel consumption will be a design matter, not a driver matter
surely at many races the 100 kg limit will cause the drivers to back off, and this will damage the racing image ?

I hope they aren't depending on the drivers to fill the deficit. I think it was set to give free driving where there isn't much concern for the driver ie if he's not driving on full power and his electrical energy is working to support the engine.
For Sure!!

Remember that 100 kg, or 140 liters, of fuel for 600 Hp equals 175 liters for today's 750 Hp, why the difference is none really.

But it's a cute marketing ploy, isn't it?

If the races conclude in much the same time as they do now (or even if slightly longer) that is a significant improvement in efficiency. Assuming they are the same length, of course (Singapore may end up a few laps short).

Perhaps so, but not for the ICE per se. Besides, if counting the energy to produce the throw-away batteries, I doubt it.

Is there a rule regarding the number of laps in a grand prix?
All that has to be done is to reduce or increase the number of laps as the FIA sees fit. That would resolve any concerns for fuel consumption.

Why not, "for reasons of safety", anything can be done?

the general rule is the least number of laps exceeding 305 kilometres, with a few exceptions like Monaco and
the maximum 2 hours

Is there still zero word regarding the Ferrari power plant or did I miss an update?

There has been words. Cant remember who from Ferrari but someone said that Mercedes and Renault pictures was so far from the final product that they felt no need to post pictures like that. They would wait till Christmas time before they let any sound or pictures slip out. At that time they believe that no competitor could steal or copy anything from their engine.

I believe that the Renault unit will be vastly different from the images presented so far, both xhausts and intercooler.
