De La Rosa and Bianchi will test for Ferrari in Bahrain

As a driver i don´t understand why you would not take a couple of laps to get some feel for the new rubber.

Autosport believe Vettel is skipping the test, presumably due to the new arrival.

Ricciardo & Vergne likely to run for RB & TR.

Am I right in saying that in the December test, the teams will have to run the cars as is 2013 spec with it being strictly a tyre test?

Do you have a source?
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

Thinking about it, surely it would make sense to run 2014 test mules at this test? i.e. 2013 cars with 2014 aero configurations to simulate the down force levels. Data that better represents 2014 is more valuable for tyre development?

I personally don't think it is, although who knows?

The 2008/09 mules were in a designated test, not a tyre test, which is a key difference I think

I don't see how it could be illegal to run narrower front wings, no beam wing, no coanda and shallower rear wings on 2013 cars at the test. They still fit within the 2013 regulations.

I don't know what is allowed on the engine side. But I suspect its still only legal to use the V8's.

edit: unless of course the tire test regulations which has been rewritten states that the cars has to be just as they were in the last race. That is also a possibility.

Narrow front wings I think wouldn't be allowed within the regs, but the rest would be yeah
