Wouldn't James have worked with him at Ferrari at some point? So they could be reasonably familiar with each others work. It's definitely an interesting development for Mercedes.
Wiki:
Ferrari F14 T (2014) - James Allison (Technical Director), Simone Resta (Deputy Chief Designer)
Ferrari SF15-T (2015) - James Allison (Technical Director), Simone Resta (Chief Designer)
Ferrari SF16-H (2016) - James Allison (Technical Director), Simone Resta (Chief Designer)
+
Ferrari SF70H (2017) - Simone Resta (Chief Designer)
Ferrari SF71H (2018) - Simone Resta (Chief Designer)
Let's hope they car they work on is a bit more successful than those earlier Ferraris lol
The 14 had an undersized turbo that couldn't be changed in season. The 15 won the races that Mercedes didn't. Can't remember the 16 other than Vettel was frikken dire that year and even lost the qualifying H2H against an ageing Raikkonen.

The pickings for other teams in those years were really slim against Merc.

The 2015 one was decent but 14 and 16 were pretty bad. But of course we all recognise that Mercedes were untouchable and teams were likely trying all kinds of weird solutions to catch up which might have backfired.

I understand this isnt realated to Mercedes anymore but since the season isn't technically started, i figured to let other Mercedes fans know that:

Angela Cullen, a popular name we all know for years, has rejoined Hamilton at Ferrari:

Nice to see her face back in the paddock.

Apologies if this shouldn't be here. Just figured us Mercedes lovers remember her well so felt it was relevant.

The curly hair and nose do a lot to make this resemblance possible.

Hopefully this means Antonelli got some of his "Father's" skill too

There won’t be a Valtteri Bottas nude calendar anytime soon as Mercedes has reportedly banned him from making one.

And this is why drivers get labelled as boring. Corporate culture is a little OTT. Those BottAss calendars were hilarious and for a good cause.
