Many, many years ago, back when motor racing was definitely in it's infancy, there was a lot of racing everywhere. But usually, in each nation, there was one event that drew all the headlines, drew all the serious racers and teams. That sooon became as the one event, the grand prize of each nation. Grand Prix = grand prize. The usual custon was for each nation to have one GP event each year. So it's come down to this modern age and era where most everything is borrowed from glories from the past. More races than I can name have the "GP" tacked onto it, and although technically inaccurate, it's just an overused term today.taleed wrote: Isn't grand prix used only for racing series?
But Formula One has just one race in each of it's host nations, and it is the ultimate level of motorsport. That's why it's called a Grand Prix.
