Are Yuki and Alex the winners here? They can go the whole race in new sets, including two mediums, while some in the top ten need to use two sets of used tires

I wonder who will try the "Schumacher - Magny Cours 2004" 4 stoppers around there. It might end up being the fastest

Perez will probably start from the back of the grid (actually the pitlane) :

All feels artificial this, to create a show. Isola said there was no danger of tyre failures with that Ted interview. They’ve basically gone ultra precautionary, and it’s likely to impact the result of the race, by favouring certain drivers, with less usage. Stinks of we’ve seen the title won and that was an anti climax, so let’s cause chaos and drama

Isola is just a PR.

This weekend is a complete farce.
Anyone that witnessed the total shambles at Indianapolis GP in 2005 (I think!), will find this solution preferable to the one taken back then.

Pirelli are not the issue here, it is drivers attacking the track limits kerbing, just as it was in Silverstone a few years ago.

The biggest issue is solving any advantage to using track limits. Rough kerbs should do it, but we see the consequences this weekend.

The Silverstone tire problems were not because of kerbs. They were because of the cyclical downforce loading that was too high. Mercedes had the most downforce and the most issues.

A couple of observations, which might both be wrong:

a) Starting from the Pit lane saves you a lap?

b) The hard tire might have been a horrible race tire when it was expected to go to 30-35 laps, and to be nursed into that, but it might be a much better race tire now that one can (must!) take all its life in only 18 laps.
Rivals, not enemies.

This is pretty much a farcical lottery at this point since some teams have more laps on their tires than others. NEvermind the fact that safety cars could have an even bigger impact because of this. Those that can't afford the early SC stop due to the mileage limitation will then have to stop immediately after the field gets bunched up meaning they drop to the back of the field.

They should be giving every driver a fresh set of their choice.

It's a farce yeah.

I'm not going to watch this race live.

Probably all just a test to try an idea for next season.

This year has been such a one horse race they need to do something in fairness. From a business point of view it’s horrific for F1 at the moment.

It has been a fantastic year, with dominance, great racing, close midfield with changes in which teams were doing better, spectacular races, ditto qualies, all time records set. And it isn’t even over yet. Plus f1 is growing from a business perspective as well, teams are profitable.
