McLaren MP4-31 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Too bad we only have one high res flowviz pic. The low res doesn't show the necessary details.

my question is that is mclaren doing right thing by focusing on validating Aero philosophy without running engine at peak power ?. can they found some loopholes in their Aero philosophy once running at peak power ?. from past 3 days running it looks like they did not put engine on full power even for one lap but i had some observations where Alonso bettered his sector times (against sector times posted in fastest lap ) but eventually backed off in other sectors.

well i dont have the knowledge to indepth judge flow patterns, but from my armchair it looks ok, no obvious detachment, nice evenly distributed flow, especially in the key areas
1. you can clearly se the downstream flow sealing the floor
2. flow evenly spread over the top diffuser
2. A lot of flow at the top center of the diffuser continuying up the rear crash structure
3. Flow over the sidepods nicely/evenly distributed outward and downward towards rear tyre/floor area
Hope someone with more insight can elaborate further

One of the biggest problems in 2015 was THAT they couldnt develop the car because of the total lack of reliability. So I can understand why they want to take 0 risk and check as much as posible.

On the other hand you´re right though taking into account that Alonso improved some sectors may demonstrate that they are hiding the true power of the PU.

09:51 That's McLaren on the board now too, as Button winds up in the MP4-31, which has looked very tricky to drive over the past two days.
