does anyone have some drawings/analysis of the new exhaust configeration?

we'll see if they will use this awesome brake ducts in race too, or they will swap them with more conventional ones

and sure worth a lot in terms of speed and lap time if they don´t overheat the brakes..
Yeah I was surprised as Shelly said to see they debut here of all places, but obviously they have everything worked out. Definite drag reduction with the new ones. I noticed today in a picture(will try to find it) an additional little winglet on top close to the suspension members but it's not in either one of these pictures.

The race will be good test for new brake ducts solution. Other teams designed quite well in terms of reliability so it remains to see if see this one would cause more thermal issues. From pictures fw34 is using bigger openeings this weekend but as the cars solutions and load levels are different it's not relavant to compere. They sure run simulation test and calculated the cooling. Flow vis suggests that air is flows where is intended to cool the discs. It would be great for comparison to have picture with older solution that has some flow vis on it.

Hey guys, the new gills on the engine cover would blow the beam wing, correct? As I don't think it's possible for those gases going down to the diffuser.

EDIT:Gills BENEATH the engine cover.

That diagram of what's going on... just... no. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that they don't want the exhaust gas to hop out of the channel half way down and go to where they were directing it before.

I agree beelsebob, I was thinking to myself WTF is Piola thinking? I mean this seriously isn't where he thinks the gasses are going does he?? Better question is why does he think this?
I mean yes at times the gasses will go in that direction, but as you mentioned not by hopping out of the middle of the channel. This type of diagram is what confuses many F1 followers who don't visit forums and such.

I too saw that image and thought erm yea cus thats really how/where the flow interacts. Like you say for the less tech savvy they see images like that and will take it as red that airflow pops out the channel.

So you guys think the Coanda effect is going to keep the exhaust plum from doing its normal expansion? I can see the expanding plum having a bias downward, but it is not going to stay the same size as when it exited the tail pipe.

If that is the case, then this illustration is valid for the upper half of the exhaust flow as it leaves the exhaust pipe.

The air flow over the sidepod should keep the exhaust plume within the channel. After that, all bets are off.

The original Acer ducts were based on the same overall philosophy, but the minimum radius requirements for bodywork in this area produced a structure that split air flow which then diffused the exhaust instead than guiding it.
