Williams FW35 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wish the side turning fins and driver uniforms were in Astana colours.

Always liked it when the team uniforms were in a totally different theme to car livery (like ferrari in early 90's).

There is something like a box on top of the sidepod, weird...

Here's a better shot of their new exhaust layout with helmholtz chamber:

To me the engine cover appears tighter around the engine, the central hot air exit gone in Pastor's car, and the floor ahead of the rear tyres is different as well.

SO what is wrong with this actually good looking car? Where is it lacking and how could they have gone so wrong compared to last year since this is an evolution, no ?

It is an evolution of last year's car, and I think they've said they're struggling with the floor/diffuser, however it seems likely that is the effect not the cause.

If their coanda exhaust isn't performing as expected, that could cause some of the rear instability issues they're having, especially on corner entry. They seem to have struggled with the EBD effect - I don't think they got the 2011 'cannon' style to work and I don't remember them actually racing the coanda exhaust last year. Also, I find it interesting that they seem to have abandoned the ramp and tunnel exhaust, I expected they would at least try another iteration. :?

These are just my opinions and observations, their problems more than likely extend beyond introducing a new exhaust :(

So they brought the 2012 car along. Promotional work, or a different reason?

Is that not the 2013 car with the 2012 stepped nose and front wing? It has the new quad strakes on the side pods and the new rear wing

I doubt it. The exhaust is completely different.
