STR was even half a tenth slower than in Q1.

Yeah with that car it is the maximum but both Hamilton and Ver did a very bad lap so the gap with them is not the real one. Tomorrow it will be a good fight with Williams for 9th and 10th.

I did say I thought Alonso would start gapping Stroll again, especially after the Newey news, he was half a sec faster in Monza, and 1 second in Baku. He almost had Hamilton in Q3 in a much faster car.

Yes and no.
Without the yellow flag he would have been out in Q1. Don't forget...
Whether he or how he set up the car was not right at the beginning, but with a rubbered track he was suddenly much more comfortable.
His Q3 lap was 0,227 sec better than his Q2 lap, but without the massive tow he lost a bit in S3.

Arrival of newey might motivate him to another level.he has best shot in years and if car has chance world will see ruthless alonso. Hope we see a championship fight between young guns and top gun.

After Alonso's last fast lap in Q1, Alonso said he was "unlucky"... I presume that means he got traffic at bad places on the track.

Alonso's first lap in Q2 was on used softs and he almost matched his Q1 time. That's probably why there was such a discrepancy in his times.

First run in Q3 by Alonso's was on used softs.

I used to be a hater of Alonso. He beat my boy MSC in a awesome 2006 season.
Then in 2007 I became a fan of Hamilton, and tbh I thought Alonso was better that season, I loved it when Mclaren were obviously favoring Hamilton. My hating on Alonso continued till about 2015, (even when I disliked him, I still thought he was probably the best driver even better than Hamitlon because of how consistant he was).
But around that time I started to put my hate aside and thought damn he is actually really good, and noticed the british media would always paint him in a negative light.
That despite having inferior machinery he would still push and dominate his team mates.
Now I look at him as someone who should have 5 plus championships and a lot more race wins.

Now I just want him in a car that can compete for podiums and wins, because despite his age, these new fans have no idea what a racing and point scoring machine he is. IMO if he was in this years Mclaren he would be a lot closer to Max in points than what Norris is.

Im no fanboy, but i have to respect his talent. With his drive and motivation I am sure he can keep this level up, especially for 2026
