I think Hamilton won't be unhappy with this delay. Now they have enough time to repair/set-up the car.

I see a lot of internet heroes with an unhealthy dose of nostalgia. I've got something for you, buy yourself small, cheap car, take part in some local rally, push the boundaries of bravery and hopefully smash your stupid brains on the first corner tree.

Hamilton: "It was definitely the right decision. It was dangerous out there." What a pussy.

Folks,
as a Melbourne resident its been the heaviest rain we have had since Oct last year...prior to Wednesday we ahd 2 weeks of scorching summer heat...35+days, breaking all heat records. Rain wont ease until midnight and its going to be 13C..a massive drop from 37C on Tuesday arvo..It may be a soggy start with the odd shower, but should clear up for the race...

How will the cerfews for the F1 teams be affected by this?

@Mika 1

What do you know about Rosberg's gearbox?
Yesterday thay said that it was ok, but it's very risky with the gearbox.
When such a problems appears, you may have to change it even if it runs normally, because during a race you never know.
I'm afraid that this gearbox will not resist for 4 races, and they will have to change it in Malaysia or China (if it not collapses untile than).
But if they change it than he will get a grid penalty.
What do you think?

Anyone got a results sheet for Q1 - a couple of comments on here implied there would have been some cars stopped on track - e.g. the radio quote from RBR to Vettel requesting he stopped the car.

BBC has something resembling the placings discussed on here, but hard to tell if that includes cars stopped on track

Sky's driver standings show the drivers miraculously finished in near alphabetical order (except di Resta and van der garde for some reason) - nice to see they're putting the subscription fees towards getting the basics right.

I can't find anything on the official F1 site without Paying £24 for a live timing app.

Although I pulled a whole nighter to watch FP3 and then qualifying and it didn't fell good on me, it was the right decision to delay and then cancel Q2 and Q3.

Heavy rain, wind, poor visibility (+the fact that it was dark because of the clouds and that is a "dirty" kind of darkness), debris brought by the wind on the track and the birds flying too close around the cars were dangerous conditions. Q1 was full of incidents and it was some kind of a mayhem on the track with some spinning, going off, front wings flying all over the place, dirt on the track etc.

People trashing the FIA for today's (because today I feel that they were actually right) decision are simply ridiculous and probably never did any racing apart from Play Station or Xbox.

I think this says it the best. The delays were a result because 'it might' rain heavily. So we've gone from red flagging sessions due to monsoon conditions, to red flagging sessions in case it turns into a monsoon. =D>

I think that is not fair, because Q2 should be raced 5 minutes after Q1 under rules. It's not fair to teams to have extra time 24h almost to fix or change car parts or make changes in setup, when cars in Q1 ended their qualies without that.

Are the teams not under parc fermé conditions?

Someone from mercedes when talking to sky sports reporter said that the time to change the rear wing changes took about 2 minutes..They had fixed it even before the q2 delay by 10 min was announced..

its not possible to change rear wing in two minutes, unless it's constructed and complete seperate from gearbox on who is going beam wing and rear wing. Rear wing is not front wing. Also his rear wing was not damaged that way that rear wing broke completly, it looked after kick in wall as one plate of rear wing was just loosen off and started going left-right.

I think it says more about the lack of confidence the FIA has in the Pirelli tyre - by not allowing the cars to run.

Pirelli claim:
More driveability in the wet
Both the Cinturato™ tyres have changed as well, with the construction of the rear tyres reengineered in particular, so that they provide more progressive traction and better warm-up in wet conditions. This helps to reduce snap oversteer and so makes the handling of the car more linear.

Cinturato™ Blue Wet. In 2013 this tyre also benefits from a new construction. Like the intermediate, the rear tyres have been redesigned to offer more progressive traction and reduce snap oversteer, while maintaining the ability to evacuate 60 litres of water per second at top speed: six times more than a road car tyre which disperses about 10 litres per second at much lower speed. The characteristics of this tyre are now more closely aligned to those of the intermediate.
We saw a lot of 'snap oversteer' in what was really only light rain, certainly not like any Malaysian monsoon. So either Australian rain is too much for a cutting edge wet weather tyre - or the initial wet running scared the FIA into action? Perhaps the FIA was right after all.

Their rear wing IS completely separate from their gearbox. There was a nice shot of one of the mechanics running to the garage carrying the new rear wing.
