Wonder if one car (probably Carlos) will run with the Portimao spec and the other with the new spec to compare their performance or if they are confident enough in the new package that both will be using it.

How many practice sessions are there for this race, just one? It's going to be tricky to find the right setup with the new parts, but they must be confident since they brought them here.

It could be but they didn't have to introduce those this year. Based on that picture, looks like they're gonna give the new bardgeboards a go tomorrow. Atleast Norris will.

So the updates that McLaren announced for Imola are the bargeboards? Weren't those tested already?

We don't know. Not all updates are visible. It could be a change to the internal suspension to allow for more agressive setup that the new aero package allows. It could be a new internal cooling package to improve engine reliability. There could be changes to the undertray, which are difficult to spot. Really, there are so many things that they may bring to a race weekend that we may never find out about.

At this point they’ve collected two races’ worth of data so if they’ve stacked ‘em on again it probably means they’re confident in the performance; otherwise wouldn’t risk compromising their sole practice session for the weekend.

Just go back a couple of pages buddy. There are quotes by James Key in a post by smallsoldier. Well, he said chassis components to be precise.

“But certainly, anything we can do this year that mitigates the fact we haven’t got the chassis tokens going into next year would help. Some of the things that we will be bringing to the next couple of races will be part of that.”

True that. But, maybe they were forced to fast track those aero components before the chassis ones due to the introduction of new nose. At least for getting some data beforehand.

All speculation of course. If they are supposed to work together, there could be a good chunk of time to be gained over next couple of GPs

Ah, I see what you mean now, but baring out-board suspension elements and the changes permitted to fit the Merc PU, McLaren’s chassis is now locked-in for 2021. I think he’s referring to getting a jump on next years aero development
