Did George have the same age mediums on as Lewis after the red flag? Just curious to understand how Lewis managed to make his mediums last to the end and have enough life left for a FL yet George seemed to really struggle.
Yes they had similar age. It was the ones used in Qualy so 1 out lap, fast lap, in lap.
Not according to AMuS:
Hamilton's medium was practically new. He had completed a round in Q1 on Saturday. Russell's medium set already had eight laps on the clock, which he had played in the first training session on Friday.

Ah right, that clearly does make a difference. And also, Hamilton got himself ahead of Leclerc, and then had clean air to manage temperature of both car/PU and tyres, which made things a lot easier. Of course, Hamilton did indeed find a way to follow and put pressure when it was right, which I agree Russell didn't manage.

For me, that (probably cheeky) comment of HAM to Button after the race 'I tried driving like you', is an important, and true one: Hamilton (had to) learn a lot from Button, as he did from the way Rosberg won a WDC from him. I wonder how much Russell really does that at the moment, he seems much more focused on asserting him than on learning where he could.

Yeah, both of the mediums used should have been the ones used in Q1. I'm not sure if Russell did more push laps with it

it's not correct though. The used set from Friday's practice (2nd, not 1st, and he did 18 laps on that set of M) was returned to Pirelli after the session:

Maybe AMus got that information from the same guy who told them that they were running different ride heights in Austin ;).

Huh, yeah, recently the solid reputation for AMuS has suffered a bit (though they've always been, opinion wise, quite solidly tending to the the Red Bull point of view camp).

The RB slant of the site has faded since 2021. The relationship soured heavily over their some of reporting in 2nd half of 2021 and cost cap stuff in '22

hamilton put on mediums on lap 36/71 and were 41 laps old at the end, so definitely not "brand new"

the tire list I posted is from Friday evening, just to show that Russell didn't keep any practice tires he potentially could have used in the race.

The qualifying set both used for the final stint of the race was a couple of laps old, yes, as 214270's post shows above. Russell did two hot laps on it in Q1, Hamilton one.

Anyone know if RUS needs to take on parts or did they repair that engine from Melbourne?

I was thinking about that too. Brazil normally a good race to take a new PU etc.

Still awaiting official and better sourced confirmation but it appears Elliott is leaving

https://formu1a.uno/en/f1-news-mercedes ... -the-team/
Another significant change is taking place at Mercedes, whose restructuring in early 2023 was already a huge story in F1 news. Mercedes began their direction with this generation of F1 cars with a change at the top of the technical office in 2021. This was a crucial decision for the design of a largely unsuccessful W13.

At the time, Mike Elliott was promoted to replace James Allison. Allison wanted to step away and ‘take a breather’ after several years and many victories as head of Mercedes’ technical office and many victories.

Mike Elliott is widely regarded as a great technical strategist as well as an aerodynamic specialist, a leading figure with twenty years of experience in F1. However, under his guidance, the zero sidepods concept was studied and implemented – failing to produce results.

When this year began, it became very clear that the 2024 project would take another path. By Toto Wolff’s own admission, the Brackley team realised that this unique philosophy would not lead to victory.

Initially, this resulted in the return of James Allison as full-time technical director.

Mike Elliott spent some time on the sidelines in a different role – and has ultimately made the decision to resign.

It must be stressed that Elliott made the choice to leave independently. He departs on good terms with the Silver Arrows.

He doesn't have long term prospect in the team after being demoted from CTO position at Merc. I think just a straight resignation
