He was hit by someone but didnt see who. For those who are new to F1 this is what a Turbo will do to a car when crashes. In the 80s that was usual on every crash.

I havent seen that kind of thing for at least 30 years. A car crashing and splitting in two on a huge explosion.Shows how much F1 has progressed from the 80s. Grosjean would be dead on an 80s car.

Gasly cut across him, probably didn't see Lando and thought it was just Ric on the inside.

He had a great start... But Bottas was out of sync and he had to slow down to not crash into him, ultimately got sandwiched by Ocon and Gasly... Not his fault at all.

He had to brake hard due to poor Bottas start and traction. He lost 2 places there and contact with Ocon.

Actually he lost the 2 places he gained but Sainz got 2 places. Both of them have a chance for more.

What does having Turbo’s has anything to do with what happened to Gro? The car went through the barriers, nothing to do with the PU’s having a Turbo.

Agree that this crash on an 80’s car would have probably been the end of his life... I think that even with today’s technology and safety improvements on the cars, Romain was still very lucky to come out of this accident alive.

That wasn’t NOR fault. Arguably he should have been a bit more on the inside to not leave GAS space but BOT was extremely slow off the corner and he had to lift allowing the others back round him. Bad luck imho

I remember an old documentary claiming that during a crash the Turbo cars used to have gone in Flames because of the high temperatures of the Turbo and the combination of Petrol going everywhere. That wouldn't have happened on a V8 atmospheric car. Still though F1 has progressed a lot since then. Grosjean would have at best a minimal burn as his suit is fireproof for some minutes. His cockpit is intact and that is impressive. Grosjean has some broken ribs though but in the 80s he would be dead and burned alive as he wouldn't have those Fireproof Suits.

Let us be just lucky for 2 thing. Romain is alive and well and the other thing is that landos wing is changed without any time penalty and carlos can switch to meduims.

All hail the HALO

The car split in half and the fuel cell was breached... The car would have been on fire regardless of the type of engine layout.

During the V8 and V10 atmospheric Era cars have been destroyed a lot but that didn't happen. Not on this level. Maybe I'm mistaken but I don't remember a car explode like that since the early 80s. Martin Brundle comments that he hasn't seen anything like that for many years. The last time it happened was on the early 80s with Alan Jones Williams.

He made a mistake, he split the Renault (Ocon I think) and SAT (Gasley Ithink) off the start but he stayed in the middle of the track. That allowed them both to go around him as things backed up at the corner. If he would have taken the outside, he would only have had Gasley to contend with.

Guess we'll see Hulk driving for Haas next week. Can't see Grosjean driving with broken ribs.
