those are pitot tubes...they use them for better understanding the airflow on the wake of the FWphoenix1206 wrote:Are those the Kiel Probes, the ones that Red Bull used back in Canada this year?afiq wrote:Massa running sensors on the left sidepod
Which is great, but it'll only continue to work if what they see out on track is the same as they've simulated in Wind tunnel/CFD. It's because they didn't get the results they were expecting to see at the start of the season that they've needed to develop at such a rate just to be level with the other leading cars.Coefficient wrote:Worry? They're the class of the field at the moment in all areas. They have out developed everyone by a massive margin!f1316 wrote:Good to know, thanks.
I'll be interested to see if the front wing stays on this time; if not, you might be forgiven for wondering if they are still having some problems with data correlation. McLaren, for example, seem to have an attitude that testing new parts on track is barely necessary, so confident are they with their simulations (this was somewhat validated by all their recent updates working right out of the box). Whilst Ferrari seems to have got a handle on their wind tunnel issues, if they still can't fit a new front wing after, what, 4 grand prix of testing it on Fridays, you begin to worry...
....i´m fully aware of the sensors on the right hand side. My question was what is that black thing sticking up, it looks to thick to be an aerodynamic part.phoenix1206 wrote:It is on the other side.Nando wrote:Sensor?

thanks.mx_tifoso wrote:The "thing" on the floor ahead of the rear tyre is not a sensor, it's a "vane" that directs airflow towards the diffuser.

Still in its infant stages...as it could be a double edged sword...it may be an advantage in one aspect...but could also prove to be an ailment towards other aero parts.Teechnical wrote:I remember Hail22 mentioned that we might see vortex generators on the sidepods, like Mclaren.
I think it would be beneficial, seeing how Ferrari have already hinted towards this with their small vortex generators on the side of the cockpit that have now been integrated into the mirror mounts. We'll see soon enough.Hail22 wrote:Still in its infant stages...as it could be a double edged sword...it may be an advantage in one aspect...but could also prove to be an ailment towards other aero parts.Teechnical wrote:I remember Hail22 mentioned that we might see vortex generators on the sidepods, like Mclaren.
oh yes you are right! i missed FP1 & 2 at germany...they probably tested it for this weekendmx_tifoso wrote:Amouzouris, are you sure? It seems to me that the monkey seat was "as is" in Germany. Although they did also use the single element version throughout the weekend.
FP1 or 2 at Hockenheim:
