Mclaren will start on softs as they learnt yesterday that worked really well.

Mercedes don't learn so will start Lewis on mediums and he drops lower than 4th on the first lap.

Max runs off into the distance by a big margin. Lewis spends 20+ laps behind the Mclarens and whatever else got in front then has to try to catch Max, which of course he cannot do anymore.

Or more realistically...

Lewis DNF on lap 1 as he is trying too hard. Max wins by 30+ seconds and it's Mclaren in second and third.

It is likely to be faster to start on mediums and better for the whole race. If Mclaren start on the softs they will get stuck in traffic of those who start on mediums and will probably be overtaken with ease by Hamilton late in the race with softs.

Any idea if this really happened (no FIA document yet), and if so, why it is allowed? Aren't they only able to change damaged parts under parc fermé?

Gasley had to take a new PU and will now startbfrom the bak, presumably behind Bottas.

he'll start from pitlane even, as the new CE is of a different specification

Ahh yes… just saw that doc come through.

Regarding Leclerc, I believe he gets no penalty for a like-for-like swap, and not a new unit.

just checked the rules again, and as far as I can see, it needs special permission from the FIA for that. And as it comes with a performance boost (newer engine) they really shouldn't be allowed.

Anyone remember how the softs did last year in the opening laps? I remember the long stint paying dividends after the safety car though.

Easy win for Max tomorrow - says Lewis Hamilton. Such a weak mentality from winning machine... O_O

It's believable even if he says after the warm up lap. :D

The flyover was cool. Surprised they let them do that big loop over the track… usually they don’t let any acrobatics over people / the event itself.

I can see that working quite well imho.but the start will be critical. Bold move but all the cars behind Lewis he should be able to overtake on top speed (with the ATs now from pitlane)
