In this video you can see clearly after the crash, that one piece of the endplate is missing ( probably the one with "gills" ).

Look around 00:30 , just below the upper rear whisbone, there is a visible piece of the rear endplate. After the crash it's missing.

Yes, definitely some damage there, I agree.

As far as I remember this was the final reason he was disqualified. He ignored yellows in quali, got disqualified, Williams appealed and he entered the race (and finished 5th) but was later disqualified for this infiringment at the start. I recall that very vividly.

Williams withdrew their appeal later after the FIA said Villeneuve risked getting a more severe penalty.

By all means provide a source to prove me wrong, but as far as i remember the stewards never really cared about weaving back then.

It was almost certinaly damaged, I guess you weren't watching the race? The right corner of the diffuser was damaged, as well as the rear wing endplate.

What does it matter anyway?

I found a source for Villeneuve's case :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/sport/formul ... .stm#japan

"Right from qualifying on Saturday it was not Villeneuve's race. He raced under the shadow of an appeal against a ban for ignoring a yellow flag in qualifying. The appeal hearing was to be held nine days after the race. Williams were warned against pursuing the appeal, and backed off, accepting instead the loss of Villeneuve's points."

The base of the right hand side rear wing end plate looked like it was missing on the TV coverage (I saw that without an HD TV! ).

If you look at the picture posted by kalinka, it is the louvred section that was missing on one side.

And Hamilton's car after incident with Alonso:

Image

Not only louvres at the bottom of the rear wing endplate were broken but there was a bit of floor damage too. In numbers: about 5 - 7 points of downforce were lost.

And it will have gone all asymmetric too. Guess it will have had an impact on tyre wear.

5 -7 points Pedro, from how many in total?

My "take away" from the race: Newey is worth about 80 HP (lack of KERS).

Sorry to be late on this comment, but did anyone else notice that during Qualifying, Michael Schumacher's car was running without the R/H louvre immediately above the exhaust exit hole. In other words, the hole was there but the louvre plate was missing.

I don't know if it was left off on purpose, or gave up during qualifying, or indeed if it was back by the start of the race.

The world feed showed it clearly. I will try to dig out a still.

Hamilton's second stint (after he got in front of the Renault and before his hard set change) was consistently faster than Vettel...How is that "off" pace?... VET vs HAM
