Renault Sport F1 R.S.17

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The shape of the front end of the floor really reaminds me of the old CART!! They used it as ground effect redirecting airflow to the outside and around the rear wheels...thereby reducing the pressure under the car and producing some kind of ground effect! Maybe i am wrong here but i think that's how it works. :?

So they have a raised Floor under the sidepodintake?!! Looks Like a funnel to suck air for the diffuser...

Maybe this is just a launch spec diffuser but they are not using the full 1050mm width...instead they seem to want to get rid of the air coming between the tires and the diffuser with those huge blank walls! Oh and look at that lower wishbone...it's like a huge wing...or is it just an illusion there?

Not quite the full 1600 but Renault went wider than 1400 with their sidepods, first team to do so.

I still haven´t come to grips with just how big the rear tires are on these 2017 cars.

Are this year's cars longer? This and the Sauber seem very long.

They have also gone for the large sidepod exits like the 2014 McLaren

The central section at the rear - terminating in the exhaust outlet - actually reminds me of the 2014 McLaren:

The pylon passes through the exhaust pipe a la Torro Rosso.

The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.
