Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Thanks. The black box under the sidepod is bigger than the R31 one and much bigger than the RB8 Kers CPU

EDIT: Added photos. Sorry for such a big post but I think it's a good documentation of start season E20 design.

What's the purpose of that small channel at the beginning of the floor? (a lot of cars have it)
Thank you really doesn't really describe enough what I feel. - Vettel

Sauber invented it in 2009 and Renault made it fancy in 2010

But E20's splitter channels are different; they blow the air just under a vane located between the bargeboard'S leading edge and the chassis

The outer wall of the channel is a strake that is angled soa as to have a pressure difference across its two sides (high pressure on the external side, low pressure on the inner side).

So you see lower pressure inside the channel; the strake also releases a vortex which flows under the floor and gives some downforce.

There is something very special about this car. They don't even have exhaust blowing happening. Perhaps that is the secret.

Hi. I'm in the middle of realising a project of constructing organizational charts for the 2012 F1 teams - they are not supposed to be exact in terms of how different departments are de facto linked to each other but rather a way to map key personnel (seniority level approx. "Heads of Departments" and up)at each team. I have gathered some information on Lotus Team F1 and would appreciate any input of missing persons you can spot or comments regarding the organizational structure (e.g. here I have been uncertain where to place the Operations Director, as the workdescription is unclear). Thanks for any help and input!
