It's crazy how much faster pole was compared to the fastest FP3 lap though. At least in recent memory, the difference hasn't been this substantial this year. Went from a 1:13.0 from Carlos to a 1:11.3 from Lando. A 1.7 second difference.

I guess the cooler temps have something to do with it. Everyone would be going faster cooler conditions, especially on a track which is prone to overheating the tires.

And judging from the telemetry, Lando and Max pretty much smoked the competition after S1 and onwards. Lando makes up most of the time in S2 and keeps level with the rest in S3. Whereas Max makes up a little less in S2, but he also gains on everyone at S3.

Max being faster on S3 is not amazing news for the race since he can use the pace to get closer and overtake in the straight, but the picture can shift completely on a heavier car.

I've watched Piastris lap again - we shouldn't be too disappointed about his second run. He would have been P7 or P8 (behind both Mercedes and Ferrari) so he didn't lose that much. He will start P9 due to Perez penalty.
Yea I thought the same, he would have been battling Gasly.
In the race… not expecting more than P8 to be honest. He’s not been on it this weekend after some stellar weekends which is expected, it’s still only his second season!

Except Lando's amazing lap some interest things:
1. Lando and Max seems from "another world" and I am extremely happy that now Lando is fighting Max almost every race on real pace;
2. A real surprise is Alpine, with Gasly only +0.4 from pole. They recovered a lot from start of the year.
3. Marginal difference between Ham and Russell (+0.002) and between Leclerc and Sainz (+0.005).
4. Perez managed to reach Q3 but again the difference between him and Max is more than huge (almost +0.7). So re-signing him I think was a bad decision from RB (bad for them and good for us :) )

The racing pace is there, so a fight with Ferrari is quite possible. The main thing is that the car allows overtaking on the main straight.

Do we have any more footage from the front wing, from Barcelona? Would love to see it from the nose mounted cameras.

No, Alpines were no way near the top runners in race simulations yesterday, so Oscar should make easy work of them. But it will be hard to fight with the Ferrari and Mercedes ahead, especially without track position.

Battling Gasly in quali.
I expect Oscar to beat him in the race. It struggle against the others in the top 4 teams

Interesting, even the drivers are perplexed.
I hadn’t realised he broke Landos front wing….

Following on from the video, some very good points in this article.

I bet they would give him a penalty now knowing he is starting P5.

That was an absolute joke of a decision, but not unexpected. Every time I think there's no way there's a Ferrari bias, stuff like this and Monaco quali happens to convince me of the opposite.
They get off easy compared to the rest because of their legacy in the sport and what their name bares. Higher ups inside the FIA, as well as stewards will almost always have a Ferrari bias.

Think I rewound this a few times to work out what was being said.
