Not necessarily. It’s important for these teams to have F1 driving experience so that the team can develop the car based on the driver’s feedback. A more experienced driver provides better feedback. Remember last year when Christian Klien was brought on board and the team managed to gain around .5 seconds just through set up changes. This is a huge area where these teams can make gains.
On the flipside of that, emerging teams also want money to develop the car, and thus want to bring in a pay driver to put stickers on the car. Narain fills both of these criteria (although one could argue that he doesn’t have THAT much experience in setup seeing as he hasn’t got much experience of these generation of F1 cars).
A Spanish driver would be a great boon to this team. However I think they might have trouble luring Jaime unless he is dumped by STR with nowhere to go. His Valencia race was excellent and if he scores points again at Silverstone I can see him being retained no trouble. It’s really just a fight in that team to not be the guy that gets booted in favour of Daniel Ricciardo.
