Second day felt a lot better than the first. The W15 looks like a massive improvement over the W14. But it feels more like what the car should have been last year. I don't think it'll be competing with RB any time soon but at least it shouldn't be getting dunked on by Aston Martin this time next week like last season.

I don’t always give credence to random overly pessimistic takes writing off a car for the season on day 2 of testing without knowledge of the program being run or any real professional expertise that would qualify the opinion. But when I do, I turn to F1T.

Russell speaks positively of W15:
Russell and Hamilton both lacked confidence in the rear end of last year's W14, and crucially that trait appears to have been addressed.

"The car last year was really challenging to drive," said Russell. "Lewis and I had no confidence in it, it felt like it was going to bite us every single corner.

"We can attack the medium and high-speed corners without the rear end snapping out. And we feel like we've made a really good step in terms of the consistency of the car. We can really lean on it better than we've been able to in the past.

"And this was a huge focus throughout last year. We saw many flaws with the W14, which the team have done a really great job to rectify.

Sky Sports DE - AMuS's Michael Schmidt makes a guest appearance

Most people in the paddock believe Red Bull will be ahead, with Ferrari in second position. Mercedes engineers estimate that Red Bull is ahead by 1 second, and Williams engineers by 0.5 seconds.

Anyone from germany to confirm this?

I can confirm. I'm hearing Mercedes are more concerned about the gap between them and Ferrari rather than Redbull atm and they will be playing catch up throughout the season to establish themselves as the best of the rest this season.

Lewis thoughts on the W15
"It was a productive day out there," Lewis said. "We gathered lots of learnings about the W15, both in our long running and single lap work.

"We've clearly made an improvement with this year's car and it's much nicer to drive.

"A big thank you to everyone at Brackley and Brixworth for the efforts they've put in to deliver that over the past year. I'm really grateful for all their hard work.

"We've still got progress to make of course. But this is a good foundation for us to build on.

"We'll keep our heads down and continue to work to find improvements, both over the rest of the test and into next week.

"I'm looking forward to being back in the car tomorrow morning and continuing that learning."

Saw a twitter post claiming Lewis hasn't talked to media and is only talking within the team? Can this be verified?

After two days, it’s pretty much as expected. In and around the best of the rest, but a chunk away from Ferrari, and nowhere near RB.

The car is better, more stable and a better drive, but not really a car that’s going to do any damage at the front. People will say it’s a negative view, but unfortunately, it is what it is, the reality of the situation.

Basically it’s going to be another tough season, trying to out develop rivals, and nibbling away at the podium.

Someone who was there said he went straight to Merc hospitality and avoided media, which after an entire day of testing I don't blame him, pretty sure Russell did the same yesterday and only gave his interview to Merc about the w15
