Lewis Hamilton has won the Grand Prix of Bahrain, fending off an exciting challenge from team mate Nico Rosberg who started from pole. Sergio Perez was overjoyed with finished third as the Mexican completes the podium.
It also showed how bad the chassis of the Mercedes customers were. Ferrari and RedBull chassis were probably a second faster but hadn't the engine.
yes i mean it's the same as now really with 2 tiers of chassis, just the engine advantage was so huge it more or less evened things out. That still puzzles me, a bit, considering how restrictive the rules are and with the limits on wind tunnel and CFD time, whatever they do to level up the teams, nothing works. But when you watch the old races you realise it's always been like this, and actually 3 top teams and 3-4 top drivers is pretty good
Even with restricted testing, windtunnel and CFD, the big teams are having more people to think up and evaluate ideas, look at what others are doing, and refining details before they get tested to the end. But yeah, Bahrain is a power track, and this race clearly showed that the Mercedes engine ruled (though don't recall whether Button DNF was PU related?) supreme at that time. Still, have to say that watching the race the Red Bull looked a bit loose/sluggish in steering in especially early in the race, which didn't help their fight either.
I miss the Rosberg/Hamilton duels in Mercedes. Bottas has been a little too nice IMO. I wish he'll be more ruthless and take the fight up to Lewis. Also yeah I agree the cars look (and sound) so slow here. I guess the improvements in engine sound on TV also helps with the perception of speed.
