Thanks, i'm really a novice at this stuff.
so I followed Julien's video, and I get this:

when the wing should look like this

I don't understand what i'm doing wrong, or what's gone wrong in the analysis
Two importants notes:

1) In paraview, always make sure to check the timestep (top rightish in the image). Otherwise you may end-up not looking at the final solution. Happened to me not very long ago;
2) Parallel on windows with openFoam. My good friends at blueCAPE have made their port of openFoam free to use and download. I have more trust in their port than in the one from cfdsupport. I am downloading it at the moment and will integrate in occfd. I will cross my fingers and hope that parallel problems are solved.

The announcement URL is https://twitter.com/bluecapept/status/7 ... 4074630144 which includes the download link.

And while I am here, we have around 15 entries for this first round. Thanks a lot for the participation.

I agree. I assume the into class has brought a few extra participants?

Guys, what do you think about publishing CFD images, like this one, after each race? We used to do it during the first KVRC season, where this pic comes from

Showing only the upper side of the car doesn't represent an actual threat for those who wish to keep their know-how for themselves. On the other hand it would help getting a better grasp on how aerodynamics works with less important (performance wise) but nonetheless interesting elements. And that is worth for both, more and less experienced people.

It would also underline, to people facing KVRC for the first time, the fact that this is a serious aero competition, not a beauty contest made only of cool renderings.

I would prefer that only renderings (even very detailed) were published, no cfd (pressure maps, streamlines). It is more realistic (never seen a car running around with the pressure map instead of the livery ;) ). But we could find a compromise: for example a pressure map with a wide range (+/-5000 pa) , but no sections and no surface-lic pictures (I can provide some pictures for marketing purposes).

For the new teams, I think that there is enough knowledge online (ex. the booklet written by Machin is a very good start point, the link is on the home page of the KVRC website).

You can find something on GrabCAD too: https://grabcad.com/library/mp003-1

By the way, any news about the pre season race?

I was wondering about JJR team.

We received entries from:

- Blindblom
- CAEdevice
- Competition Car Engineering
- HP Racing
- JJR Racing
- Kineuton
- MantiumRAY
- Mercury Motorsport
- Pure Power Racing
- RicME Motorsport
- sjns Racing
- Talno Racing
- TF
- Variante
- Will

I am a bit behind on the legality checking, but we will start the simulations soon (since there is no re-submission for this round).

In paraview, how do I view or graph forces acting on my car/wing?

I would prefer renders, I like doing renders of all my designs, whether they're serious or purely for aesthetics

I like that too. In fact, I use to make a lot of them of my cars. The proposal was referred to the official images released by the staff after each race.

We agree, then.

I was reading through Richard Machin's intro to racecar aero. please can someone tell me how to do those surface lic plots and the downforce plots?

and how to calculate cop?

thanks

COP is given in the OCCFD results on the HTML page.

As for Surface LIC, this is what Chris sent me last season:
-Make sure SurfaceLIC is loaded (only need to do this once): go to tools -> manage plugins and expand the "SurfaceLIC" entry. Tick the 'auto load' box. You may need to restart Paraview. If you open the plugin manager again you should now see "Loaded" next to "SurfaceLIC".

-Open the case in Paraview. In the properties panel, tick 'internalMesh' and nothing else in the top panel, and 'U' and 'P' in the bottom panel, then click apply. After it's loaded, you should see a box.

-In the top toolbar, click the 'slice' button and click apply. You can position it before clicking apply, or re-position it later. You should now see a plane, probably coloured by pressure depending on your defaults.

-In the top toolbar, there should be a dropdown displaying "Surface". Change this to "SurfaceLIC". You should hopefully see some streamlines, but they will probably be invalid, all flowing in one direction.

-In the properties panel, look for the "SurfaceLIC: Integrator" subsection. The first element there should be a dropdown called "Vectors". In this dropdown there should be two "U" options with different icons. One of them should show the valid streamlines (the one with the small circular icon).

-At this point you now hopefully have the streamlines. You can play around with the other options in the properties panel, such as "Colour Mode" and "Enhance Contrast" to make it a bit easier to see the colours. You can also re-position the plane (top of the properties panel) to inspect different areas of the car). You can change which scalar field the colours are showing with the other dropdown in the top toolbar - you will probably need to tweak the range by using the range controls in the top toolbar.
