Re: Scuderia Ferrari 2012 - not the car!

Post

I meant "you" in a collective sense. I should have said "we".

Surely we can find something objective to say about Ferrari in 2012?

Oh look, a new page! A fresh start, back on topic.

A speculative question for everyone - do you think Ferrari's radical car for this year was the right approach? Could they have been better off developing the F150, and ironing out its faults. After all, we did see how competitive Ferrari can be with limited off throttle blowing in Silverstone last year.

Unfortunately the F150 was designed for that specific wheel base, the F2012 is longer than its predecessor.

I think the F2012 will dial in quite well possibly top two if they can work on the small "issues", and remember Ferrari suffered a severe loss last year they may be playing a tactic in order to make teams feel a false sense of security by putting down the car.

Massa's reaction and the teams reaction on the last day of testing was seen by many observers as a "Happy day", I wonder why and I don't think it has anything to do with completing 100 laps.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Maybe he they were evaluating those "thousand new parts" and that is why his times were slower? I mean, really, we can't judge who is fastest by test days. If I remember correctly all predictions after last years tests were that Ferrari is dominant at front followed by RB, Williams and Mercedes and that McLaren at the and of the pack. Than we went to Australia to find that RB is even more dominant than year before.

Also earlier today La Stampa reported that on Saturday the F2012 will receive it's first big aero update for Melbourne, named "Red".

The Ferrari F2012 can introduce new design for the pre-season training on Saturday (03). This is what the report said the Italian newspaper 'La Stampa', confirming through the driver Fernando Alonso, the Scuderia Red fireball will receive a new aerodynamic package, called 'RED'.

"We have improved, we have chosen the right path. Many parts, repairs and modifications were made by mechanics in F2012 as the project is so new that they at first did not know where to put your hands. Now I believe that on Saturday, the new F2012 will show its potential for the Australian Grand Prix, "said Alonso.

According to a report in Italian newspaper on Thursday and Friday, the Ferrari will be evaluating various technical solutions for the implementation of the 'RED'. The functioning of tires, the possible disposal of the steps in its beak, and height loss in the F2012 chassis have also been speculated by 'La Stampa'.

I really want to believe that.

I'd love for xpensive to weigh in on this, because it appears as though a lot of his criticism of last year's Mercedes is xemplified in the F2012.

I think Ferrari will do well this season, if this "RED" package is seen to be the update for the final car before Melbourne it gives them roughly two days to analyze the parts, then make subsequent updates for Melbourne.

I think they're holding back on something...media suggested once more the crew were smiling...thats rare for a team like Ferrari usually their faces are drowned in deep sorrow.

Hope she performs at Melbourne.

Bro there are all kinds of pictures from today where Felipe is smiling ear to ear! I too think the team have been holding back a bit, downplaying the performance of the car, etc. We may not be the fastest in Melbourne, maybe we will. But we'll will get on top of the car by Bahrain or Spain and win races.

I don't think there's any reason at all to hold something back at this point unless the team is 100% sure beyond even the shadow of a doubt that they fully understand the car and that they have enough real pace to legitimately challenge for the win from the very beginning of the season. Otherwise, holding back is a terrible waste of invaluable testing time.

Considering all of the problems Ferrari has had in recent years with new parts not working on-track at the levels indicated by simulations and wind tunnel testing, prudence demands that nothing be taken for granted. Given everything, I simply cannot see how Ferrari could possibly be that comfortable right now.

I would say there's definitely something bad in that.

Look through my comments in this thread. I've been a voice of calm from the very beginning when people were writing off the car after the first day. So, I've not come to this judgment lightly.

It's still better to run and test the pros and cons of each setup now than at the first race of the season.

Having said that I see your point too, it's easy to mistake this for a lack of direction and/or confidence in their initial design.

i don't know how fast will this car be, but i must say that i like this risk ferrari has taken. you know that these 12 days really are very short to setup a race car. so using tape, wire and hammer are really not so bad sign.
