If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Rough Google Translate:
Even the former chief designer Rory Byrne is here. "I'm working full steam on 2014er car," laughs the 69-year old South African. The Ferrari F138 interested him only in passing. "A nice car, but against what awaits us in 2014, it's all child's play."
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

Byrne at Ferrari "working full steam"

Post

If true this would be great news IMO - Rory Byrne is back working on our 2014 car. Best part is, in his words, he is "working full steam" on that car.

Rory Byrne, Ferrari legendary former chief designer, was at the launch of the team’s 2013 car at Maranello on Friday.

He told Auto Motor und Sport he is actually “working full steam” on the Italian team’s project for the 2014 car, which will be powered by the all-new turbo V6 rules.

“It’s a nice car,” the South African – referring to the newly-launched F138 – laughed, “but it’s all child’s play compared to what awaits us in 2014.”

Until then, Ferrari has the 2013 title to win after a so far five-year championship drought, and boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed that his designers have adopted some “extreme solutions” to compete with Red Bull.

“We are just waiting for Newey to complain about our rear suspension,” Auto Motor und Sport quoted a team insider.

The German report said the insider is referring to the rear profile that duplicates the 2012 Red Bull — only more extremely. (GMM)

Oh man! That brought a smile to my face :D
Do you feel you can beat the Red Bulls, either to pole position or the race itself?
Fernando Alonso: "I prefer to beat them on Sunday."

I loved the first video Ferrari made that depicts all the years of Ferrari (or most of at least).

and the music to unveil the F138...I liked it so I thought I share it here:

I'm very surprised this isn't a bigger story - seems pretty major to have one of the most successful designers in F1 history returning to design a car for the most successful team in the sport's history, just in time for a major rule change...

Thanks, Hail22. Nice work by the Ferrari PR/Marketing people.

I, too, hope Byrne makes a big difference, but a lot will depend on coordination. Let's hope his presence does not cause organizational problems -- or a clash of egos.

This is an interesting opinion from the journalist about Alonso

http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/view/ ... e_Ferrari/

I dont want to cause any arguements amoungst the Ferrari/Alonso fans.

Its not impossible to think that Alonso might leave, no matter how much love is between them, think back to 2007 when Hamilton said: 'Sign me up for life, Ron.' Hamilton has left Mclaren, could Alonso leave Ferrari? could Vettel join Ferrari? as Alonso replacement!

You have to love F1, you can start speculating from fresh air lol

yes but he was retired couple of years, comebacks are always hard, specialy when you are 70 years old, new tehnology, new car designs new rules, sorry but i would rather give a chance some young talented person, who have energy to keep up and constantly progress.
this is real world, it's not anime, it's not Muten Roshi or Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto

I suspect his role is imparting wisdom, to act as a sounding board for design development rather than imposing on the design team. Tapping into his experience would be an incredible learning experience for upcoming talent, it can accelerate their career.
