Mercedes AMG F1 W08 EQ Power +

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If it was, I think it wouldn't have the wing profile that it does.
But if they found an aerodynamic loophole, why are they already using it on a shakedown run? Makes no sense to me.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they figure it's a fairly blatant loophole that others will utilize?

That's an interesting wing.

EDIT: I see this is an dubble post. I am sorry for that...

Make other team loose time trying to figure out what it does, a-la RB exhaust stickers from a few years ago?

No way

Yes but i think that it's main purpose is to "clean" air for the rear wing

My guess would be to create vortices which turn the opposite way as those created at the rearwing, to neutralize them, reducing drag

But I still don't understand why they would show it already, if its legal

It looks like it is situated above the rear wing flow. The down flips at the wing end means they are trying to get DF across the full length of the wing. I don't know if the tip vortices will have much interaction with the rear wing. It is hard to tell how much higher this thing is than the rear wing.

I'm liking the triple vertical barge boards and horizontal wing-like flow conditioners just after the front upper suspension members. The sidepod design appears innovative as well. Fantastic looking car!

Exactly what I had in mind. Could be used to stall the rear wing, or perhaps it's main effect is while using the DRS.

Or... its nothing at all.

Yes, maybe it stalls the wing when on a straight, and when in yaw it allows the rear wing to produce DF?

very interesting but would they really show that already, and is this even legal, maybe they are simulating an effect that will be achieved in another way, which they are not wanting to reveal yet
