Williams FW42 speculation thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

shouldnt this thread lose the speculation moniker and call it what it is, the fw42 thread?

Normally that has to wait for the first high quality shots. No one is precluded from doing analysis in the speculation threads.

Just as worryingly for Williams - who dominated much of the 1980s and 1990s in F1 but slumped to last in the constructors' championship in 2018 - the team fear privately the car will be slow when it does finally hit the track. Insiders say it is projected to be at least two seconds slower than last year's car, which was already the slowest in F1.

Extremely concerning if true especially considering the FW41 was so slow that one would expect them to gain at least a small amount of time regardless of the 2019 tech reg changes. What on Earth is going on at Williams?!?! :(

Sounds to me like their financial position is pretty bad. With test time at a premium the sole reason to miss these days that I can think of would be because of money.

I thought the rumour was that certain parts were not signed off on time or were late and so the manufacturing was delayed hence no car ready for testing

You sure about that? LEC is only 1 sec under last year time, after 1.5 days of testing and not with the Hypersoft. I'm sure car will be as fast as last year if not faster

I suspect rather embarrassingly, that it was realised far too late that some components were flat out wrong and redesigned parts had to be rushed through and simply couldn't be made in time.

Still, better late than the late!

Someone in the Williams F1 Forum (can’t remember what the exact link is) says they found a massive design error in the braking system.
By the way, motorsport.com is reporting the car is now ready and will be in Barcelona tomorrow morning.

so lunch at best, expecting none at all in the end.

Yes. the tarmac was pretty new last year and matured since then. Even Pirelli expects way faster times.
