Hamilton said it was cooling
Yup, will be interesting to learn. Perhaps they also don’t want to let the competition in on knowing too much? Likely underfloor damage I think. Merc does have those small Winglets next to the underfloor hump. Maybe the turn1 kerbsausages ate them up?komninosm wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:45I think he broke something else and they thought it was the wing, but they were wrong. He was really slow after the pit.Sieper wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:26In all fairness, Mercedes clearly saved their engine here. They will finish the season on 3 units. That alone gives them more free points then winning here.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:22Regardless of the penalty... Finally a race that isn’t dominated by Mercedes... What seemed like a clean sweep this season is now not achievable.

Allthough, the gap was big. Lewis broke his wing and possibly Floor as well? Even after the FW change the pace was not really there.
Did they show any damage at all on the wing? What did Mercedes say? I guess they'll put it up in their Youtube account tomorrow.
And all I'm saying it is not always the case.zac510 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 18:40I'm not attributing any blame or playing whataboutisms, I'm just saying being on the outside of that corner, you're going to have a bad time.timbo wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 18:36Except on the previous lap, Leclerc made a comeback pass on Verstappen from the outside of the corner.zac510 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 18:34The outside of turn 3 is a dumb place to be. It doesn't matter whether you're overtaking, being overtaken, in a tin-top, F3 car, F1 car or whatever! Being on the outside of another car in there is going to end in misery. It always has been, as long as that corner has existed! LEC should know that and stop moping.
I don't personally have formed an opinion about that, but for reference here is the 2016 incident:
On the other end, with the racing (or better: lack of) which has been going on this season it might be time to allow some dirty racing. If someone really overshoots an apex the other car will easily cross back and be in front coming out of that corner.Shrieker wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:50This sets a really really bad precedent, as drivers will be tempted to straight out barge their fellow racers out of the way like Max did today. This will promote dirty racing. And if something similar happens and the aggressor is penalized, the FIA and its stewards will be accused with inconsistency at the very least - and rightfully so.
Quite obvious a totally different situation. Rosberg is not having a ny racing line at all, he just brakes very late. Max had a racing line, great overtake! Good to see it approved!
Ow, come on ...Shrieker wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:50This sets a really really bad precedent, as drivers will be tempted to straight out barge their fellow racers out of the way like Max did today. Ah, I didn’t even mean this one. I got the year wrong. I think it was 2015 then. GPR-A posted it earlier here.turbof1 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2019, 20:57I don't personally have formed an opinion about that, but for reference here is the 2016 incident:

EDIT: looking at it myself, Rosberg did not bother to turn in and just rammed into Hamilton. Verstappen did actually turned in and just had very minor contact with Leclerc. I'm still not sure myself if Verstappen deserved a penalty or not, but in Rosberg's case it was much more severe.
The simple fact that Ves steered around the corner whereas Rosberg just didn't turn at all ..
